Has anyone out there read the book Labrinthe by Kate Mosse?
Just wondering if anyone else thought it was rubbish and incredibly over-rated?
She played it for a great mystery, kept hinting at things just to try and drag us along, which it did only because I had nothing better to read, and then at the end... wtf?! What the hell was the grail supposed to be, some magical spell for long life? *rolls eyes*
Credit to the woman for being able to spin a yarn, to have the commitment to sit down and write the book and have the tenacity to get it published. And fairplay it has been a commercial success.
But I think it was a bad book.
The characters weren't great. Was I supposed to forgive Guilhem? Twat. And like we didn't know the old bloke was Sajhe from very early on. But still he was a wasted character.
Mirroring the names - Alice and Alias, Guilhem and Will... *sigh* I just found it too obvious.
Mosse kept repeating the same phrases over and over. If I had to read once more 'feelign all of his 52/62/312 years' I really would have tossed the book.
And her use of violence was in many places gratuitious. Not saying the burnings or the seige/battles but she kept telling us about flaps on skin on faces... another overused image.
I think this book could have been a bit better with a good editor. I mean if I can pick out these things, little things that I pick out when I beta a fanfic for the love of god, then surely someone who edits fiction for a living should be able to do it?!
Ok end rant.
I've not got so bothered by a book in a long time lol
Any reccs for a good read? Anyone read the Sebastian Barry one? I'm thinking of getting that...
