I've just opened my flist and it's about two things: SPN (which I am not looking at cos not seen it yet) and Dreamwidth.

Do I need to be there? Do I need to be invited? Can I be to check it out? Questions questions...

The great thing about Dreamwidth that is if you post on there, you can set it up to automatically crosspost to LJ. I tried it out last night, and it works brilliantly.

I'm liking DW so far. I got an invite code as I set up on an Open ID a while ago to follow a friend who has gone there permanently. Likewise if I get an invite code I'll let you know, but you may get one the same way I got mine, which is if you set up on an Open ID, which you already have.

Just go to DW and under 'join on an Open ID' use your Open ID which is as follows: LJusername.Livejournal.com and your LJ password. Then confirm your email address to them, that allows yuo to comment on people's entries and also will make you more likely to get sent an invite code.
