The incoming leader of the Catholic Church in England and Wales has described as 'courageous' members of the clergy who have admitted abusing children in their care.

I am disgusted and livid... can't even type a coherent entry.

The full report is here on RTE

I'm slightly thinking that this bloke is particularly naive... but how he can say those things... *shakes head*

What.. the.. fuck?

Is he kidding?

I don't care if those priests come up with the cure for AIDs, it doesn't make it ok for them to abuse kids. And there is no 'courage' involved in coming forward. They should be locked up.

He is just insane, clearly. I hope he's the shortest serving Catholic Archbishop we ever have.

How dare they say that. The word courageous isn't really sufficient to describe those victims of abuse who have managed to carry on with life afterwards.

I totally agree with what John Kelly said.

Personally I believe that abuse was almost an integral part of the Catholic Church at that period, and also that those who knew it was going on and did nothing to stop it should be held as reponsible as those commiting the abuse.

I agree with that.
I meant to email you about it this morning, because I felt you should be pre-warned before you saw your mum, just incase...
But I am still so angry I can barely talk about it. It's the headline news over here but on BBC you have to search for any mention and then it's just about how he has been appointed...

Mmm, as someone who was physically abused a nun at the age of 6 my first school (when you're the only class member she almost daily beats with a ruler for no reason I think it can be classed as abuse lol) this is an assue which has always been close to my heart.

Yeah I can't talk about this with my Mum, but if she brings it up of course I won't be able to help myself lol

Let there be absolutely NO doubt in your mind - what that nun did WAS abuse.
Some nuns were evil bitches. End of.

I'm sure I've told you but when I first met my Dad's aunt and her sister nuns, in France, i was so stunned they were 'normal.' And I think it is because they were an order that worked in prisons and not schools. They were not there to put children down.
