Questionnare for uni project

So for one of my university courses we have to do a group project having to do with culture. Ours is the comparison of Austrian stereotypes. As in stereotypes Austrians have about themselves as compared to stereotypes people from abroad have about us. So you'd all help me sooooooooo much if you could just answer these questions. If it'd make you ( Read more... )

1. Sterotypes definition: fixed impressions, exaggerated or preconceived ideas about particular social groups, usually based solely on physical appearance.
2. I think they're created anytime a person judges anyone on appearance alone.
3. Good question. I personally have no idea as I don't have a sterotype for them.
4. I believe they exist but I don't believe in them as I try never to judge anyone or anything that way.

Hope this helps, sweetheart! *squishes and loves*

1) What are stereotypes?
Broad based assumptions of a certain group of people based off of old prejudices.

2) How do you think stereotypes are created?
There's always someone who fits the stereotype so that's probably where they start. Plus there's always society propaganda/ignorance and other such causes.

3) What are the stereotypes about Austrians/Austria?
Usually they get lumped in with Germans from where I come from (America, New England specifically). Arnold Swarzngghghg has done nothing to help them either. I've heard Nazi's, body builders, very strict, very serious, yodeling, literhuesin (I can't spell that word I'm sorry), sausages and beer. Oh, and you're all blonde haired and blue eyed didn't ya know? Not known for their smarts, mostly muscle.

4) Do you believe in them? Why/Why not?
I'm sure there's a small percentage of the population that fit the descriptions as there always is someone who fits the stereotype. However, in general, no. I do not think that an entire country/culture can be summed up by one discription. ( ... )
