Yesterday started up on Epsom Downs, watching dozens and dozens of firework displays going off BELOW us.  Visibility wasn't great, we probably could only see half of London.  We toasted the new year with Hot chocolate from a Thermos - starting practical, with frugal amounts of luxury - that Whittards Hot Chocolate is not cheap but very good

I'm glad you got up onto Epsom Downs to see in the New Year - I did wonder if you'd be doing that!

It might be worth getting high-power rechargeable AA's and a charger. That's what Bear uses.
