That was a waste of a month.

I finally finished reading White Teeth by Zadie Smith. This book was hyped all over the place when it came out in 2000. 2000 was the year of Hype. Hmmmm, I actually quite enjoyed White Teeth. I didn't like it when they adapted it for TV though.

I think I was enjoying it too but expected a lot more from the ending.

I'd totally forgotten about the tv adaptation until about a quarter of the way through the book it started to seem vaguely familiar! Now that I do remember it, it's amazing how much of the book they changed or left out.

I think I gave up on the TV adaptation after the first episode. *lol*

I tried White Teeth a couple of years ago, and never got into it. But then I don't like Zadie Smith as a person - in all her interviews, she's contemptuous of the reading public, as she has to suffer the indignity of standing next to them in Starbucks. If it weren't for people buying her books, she would most likely be doing a dreary office job and hoping for her big break. How easily they forget.

Hmmm, so the hype went to her head then. Or maybe she was always contemptuous. Pity.

Oh, I hear you sister! It's like the ending came to her whilst on the throne and she wrote it on toilet paper before she forgot it!
