Sebastien "Bastien" Mayfair

Bastien first appeared as a possessed spirit given unholy and sadistic powers by the devil. He was the shepherd in Game #1. His backstory was revealed slowly over the course of this first game: During the mid-to-late 1800s he was a nobleman who was greatly interested in spiritualism. Something of a playboy, he nevertheless harboured a mutual passion with his butler and the majordomo of his household, Christian, which they had kept a secret since childhood. He travelled the world and gathered many artifacts as part of his personal hobby, and shipped them to the household where Christian -- more or less disinterested in the occult and highly religious -- would store them. Unfortunately, eventually Bastien got in over his head and sent back a number of artifacts, including a book and a sword, which were genuinely filled with demonic power. People on the trip with him began to die, as he hallucinated demons. (Probably hallucinated . . .)

When he returned home, he found himself possessed and coming to in moments of lucidity to find that he had attacked or killed members of the household, or ordered things that made little sense to his waking self (such as digging a pit). One day while possessed he was the cause of Christian losing an eye; from there, he began to get obsessed with restoring him, an obsession which the demon in him twisted to its own ends and which led, ultimately, to Bastien hanging Christian to death and then, in his despair, giving into evil and allowing his spirit to become corrupted. The manor house, disturbed by the murders and Satanic rituals taking place, began to slip into a spiritual realm, caught in patterns of repetition and timeslip, changing around its occupants. Bastien, possessed but still with his covetous personality, would take advantage of these timeslips to collect items -- and perhaps more -- from different places in time. Meanwhile, he was further and further in denial that the ghost of Christian was still haunting his manor, as to acknowledge this would be to admit that due to his actions the man he loved would not be able to go to God's light.

It was in this state that he summoned a set of players to engage in a game of Cry Wolf, with their blood sacrifice as the spoils; partly due to the demon's urging and partly as a form of torturing himself with his acknowledgment of his evil. As the players unwound the mysteries of the game they discovered items such as Bastien's letters which revealed both his normal personality and his love for Christian, and through interacting also with Christian's ghost they managed to appeal to Bastien's love and help him reject the evil that had been living in him by accepting Christian's forgiveness and the possibility of a greater Forgiveness.

He appeared as well in Game 2, leaving behind his afterlife by becoming a ghost and possessing Kallen in order to infiltrate the Cry Wolf group. Much more of his natural personality shone through here, though he was shown still to have a fondness for witchcraft and blood ritual. He was more or less just on a quest to save his boyfriend.

Again he appeared for Game 6 as the entire setting when Lucia summoned him with blood magic to try to get the secret part of the sword out of him by having the players enter his soul to dig the information out. After, he was shown to become a restless spirit again, accompanied by Kit.

Bastien's personality when possessed is sadistic, torturous, and dangerous. He was a haunt who wanted to see as much pain and suffering as possible before the game ended, especially of a psychological bent, and was willing to sacrifice friends and loved ones of the players in front of them to encourage this.

Bastien's personality sans demonic possession is brash, amoral, dominant, and headstrong. He's cheerful, but in an aggressively shameless way. He has little use for traditional systems of morality and continues to engage in witchcraft and demonology, possesses others without permission, and otherwise is just kind of a bit sketchy.

Physically, he appears (in his natural form) as a man in his mid-to-late thirties with a rakish appearance, broad shoulders, and short blond hair. He tends towards flamboyant clothing in reds and golds and occasionally blues.

Christian "Kit" Jacobs

In Game 1, we meet Christian -- Kit was Bastien's butler and lover in life, and remained devoted to him after death, never blaming him for his death. He aimed for many years to make his presence known in the house to try to affect Bastien and make him understand this forgiveness, but failed to do so. He began to slip slowly into despair and oblivion until the players arrived; Shuri in particular reminded him of Bastien when he was a child and the attempts to (and successes at) communicating with him gave him hope again -- enough for one last try at the end, which finally succeeded.

He appeared as well in Game 2, having been sealed into a clay golem form of himself by Elli's powers. As evil powers had started to act in the house again she was unable to control the rapid timeslips, and so with Luka's suggestion they summoned Kit's ghost to use his long tie to the house to try to hold it more or less in place (though this was unable to stop the strangenesses of the house entirely, as the house HAD been in a bad state for much of the time Kit was bound to it). While there and acting as her butler, Kit grew quite fond of Elli, though sad for her, and tried to encourage her to believe in her better feelings and impulses and not to give into despair herself, though he could not see any way out of the situation as she'd fallen in love with a demon. After Bastien rescued him, he stuck around long enough to see what happened to Elli and Luka, and then he and Bastien moved on.

However, when Bastien's soul was bound again he returned to try to guide the players through the experience and help as best he could to minimize damage. When Bastien realized he still had unfinished business, Kit chose to remain with him on earth again as a restless spirit.

Kit is a bit of a prude and a very emotional person, though he manages through long practice to more or less appear calm and proper. He's easily embarrassed and flustered, especially by Bastien's excessive personality, and makes all his decisions based on his heart. He's a very faithful Victorian Protestant, as well, believing above all that good acts are significant for their own sake and that God's forgiveness will come to all. Ultimately, he chooses to hang his life on other people because he gets attached very easily.

Physically, he appears as a man in his late thirties to early forties with stress lines around his mouth and eyes, and wears his thin (and slightly receding) hair to his shoulders and tightly bound back. His hair is black and graying. He wears a formal suit. He blushes easily.

Elli & Luka Sullivan

Elaine (aka Elli) was, at the time of Game 3, a 13-year-old witch who had made a contract with a demon. She had originally been the child of a rich family who moved from the States and bought a mansion in the mountains of Scotland; she and her twin brother, feeling isolated, explored the house and found, in a secret storage area, paraphanalia of Satanic worship, including a sword and a book. As they explored, her twin brother Luka kept getting stranger; simultaneously, servants of the household started to turn up dead in horrible ways. She eventually stumbled in on him killing their parents and stabbed him to try to stop him; in the end, she was not able to save her parents and died with her brother in her arms, begging her to let him live. A demon showed up to her and, though he said he could not resurrect her brother, offered, in exchange for her soul in contract, to serve her while living in her brother's body, "as" her brother, and thus keep his body from decaying while she researched ways to bring him back. After a year, whether or not she could do so, the contract would end and he would leave the body, to take her soul whenever she died.

Towards the end of that year, he offered to extend the contract but in order to do so he required a blood sacrifice, as he was not strong enough otherwise. Drawing on the history of the house, he made a suggestion of a Cry Wolf game. She summoned players and conducted one, but, being a basically moral girl with normal feelings, doubted it throughout and made herself more and more miserable. At the end, he offered to let her back out but explained that he would have to go. Having since fallen in love with the quirky demon in the time she decided to go through with it, though she hated the idea. In the end, Bastien and other players interfered in the ritual and shot Luka's body; she watched in a panic as he fled from prepared vessel to prepared vessel, eventually withdrawing into his clock which he used as a gateway. In despair, she decided to protect it with her life; in return, he took the holy bullet for her, then, as he started to bleed away and was calling on the strength of his surroundings to survive, he asked her if he could live inside her and she permitted him, letting him possess her and regain strength from that. After the players reluctantly let them survive, she decided to do what she could to make up for her actions by becoming an exorcist/demon-hunter, still calling on Luka's powers and even though she knows that she will still be damned herself when she dies.

"Luka", who continues to go by the name of Elli's twin brother after possessing his corpse, is a mysterious demon of whom little backstory has been revealed to the players. What is known about him is that his true form is that of a "shadow figure" with gaping red holes for eyes; that he is capable of turning things into 'vessels' or physical bodies for himself (from books to corpses to possessing another living human being), that he has a great interest in games and play, that he was originally possessing a book Bastien brought to the house, that he is at odds with another of the household demons despite working for the same 'power', and that Elli is not the first human he has made a contract with. He has a place he "carries with him" where he kept the players as Limbo -- a large, child's bedroom with lots of objects that seemed normal at first glance but had haunting or torturous psychological effects when properly examined. It is accessible via a road of living corpses. Luka has the power to adjust the bodies he's using as a vessel, including piecing them back together if damaged or fluidly adjusting their physiology beyond the normative (fingers that turn into long claws, ability to turn his teeth sharp, etc).

Personality-wise, Luka is extremely easy-going and blase, mild, and greatly interested in the world around him. He seems to function less on a scale of like/dislike and more on a scale of interest/disinterest. Only rarely have characters done things which have incited a passionate response. He's laid-back; most of the time he lets others do what they want, with the occasional request or suggestion from him, even if he stands to lose or gain from it. Nevertheless, he is perfectly happy to harm, torture, or devour others, just as he's perfectly happy to let them be. He has tied his fate to Elli's, claiming he never gets bored when she's around. The two are currently cohabiting the same body; if he leaves it, Elli is likely to die within a short time as her contract's clock is taking too great a toll on her body past the date of expirey.

Luka loves games which pit him against humans, from cards to board games to question or guessing games, and can find every way to suggest they turn any situation into "play".

The St. Dominic's Boys School Cast

Cillian Prewett
Cillian is the headmaster of St. Dominic's School for Boys and is known to be an open-minded and accepting man, gentle and soothing in his personality, and very courteous. He is around 50, has white hair and hazel eyes, and walks with a cane. He has been implied that he is a normal human but has belief in and intimate knowledge of the supernatural. He hired the players to investigate the murder at the school and has shown himself since to be quite grateful for their help and is willing to research or assist in their own investigations in the future.

Mina Julian
Mina is the chief secretary and head of admissions at St. Dominic's School for Boys and a good friend of -- though considering him her superior -- Cillian. She's cheerful, high-energy, hard-working, and seems to make a habit of not quite sleeping enough. Little else is known about her.

Tristan Valentine
The players first met Tristan when he was TA'ing for the Literature teacher at St. Dominic's. Appearing to be around his mid-twenties and good-looking, he nevertheless gave off a kind of skeevy vibe as he didn't hesitate to check out or hit on basically anyone around him. When he entrhalled Kaname Dean burst in and correctly identified Tristan as an incubus. Although Tristan went along with his "arrest", even helping calm the panicky situation at the climax of the game when everyone, suspect and investigator alike was in danger, he nevertheless took advantage of the first opportunity to escape and has not been seen since. His personality is highly sexual, but also electronics-loving (wearing his ipod, etc), and apparently genuinely fond of literature. PS: Tristan is hot.

He has recently reappeared again with Elli and Luka when it turned out he was in Dundee at the same time they were, but again he fucked off at the first sign of personal risk.

Zachary Quinton (no relation to the actor)
Zachary is an angry young man with a defensive personality, who had fallen in love with Ms. Little and also engaged in Satanic ritual and ... well, grimoire snorting with her and the rest of the group. He is very determined to always be right and argues with those around him constantly. He's also likely to blame everyone else for situations that are his fault, as happened with the grimoire and the Ms. Little incident. When last seen he was under house arrest and about to be interviewed by Elli/Luka regarding the events.

Madison Sharp
Madison is a half-blind 11-year-old genius attending school at St. Dominic's School. He is psychic, receiving visions that he can't fully understand, and having matching bursts of insight or 'bad feelings' that he can't always pinpoint the significance of. He first warned Cillian Prewett that there was danger in waiting the full time for Ms. Little's death to be investigated (although he was a suspect himself due to timing) and helped out with investigation with his instincts and inpulses. His personality is highly unstable; he seems in a constant mode of low-grade panic and uneasiness, and if triggered into a higher level of panic (by situations that can include 'people entering his room') is harmful towards others or himself, though he also seems shy, friendly, and lonely.

Madison spent some time in the summer travelling with Kieran Knight to investigate paranormal things and help understand himself better. He has developed a closer professional relationship with Elli and Luka through this.

Naveed Gill
Naveed is the Librarian at St. Dominic's. He is highly educated, well-spoken, and very, very firm on the library rules. It is rumored that he sleeps in the library. He accepts all books donated, a fact that caused friction between himself and Dean Winchester, who felt he was putting the students at risk by allowing demonology texts on the shelf, though Mr. Gill views anything else as censorship. He takes everything quite seriously and has a strong dislike for people who attempt to pressure him on his beliefs or who speak loudly in the library.

Kieran Knight
Kieran is a student at St. Dominic's in his final year of school. He is the co-captain of the Soccer club, as well as captain of the chess club and on the debate team. He and his best friend and co-captain, Ken Takahashi, are usually seen together around campus. He's big into literature; he theoretically went to the literary TA for a lot of discussion on the readings, but given that said TA is Tristan, players consider it highly likely that something else was happening (or, at least, ALSO happening). He's a fairly easy-going teenage boy with a tendency towards rough-housing, brofisting, and sardonic commentary. Players quickly determined him un-suspicious and had him help track down the supernatural rumors in the school, though he wasn't a big believer in them. He is also female-to-male transgender, though this is not known to any of the player characters ICly (players discovered it after the game in a Q&A session). At school, only his best friend Ken, the principal, and Tristan are aware.

Kieran recently reappeared in Dundee with Madison, where he was investigating paranormal events and is beginning to study demonology. Tristan and he have resumed their previous relationship.

Nathalie Winters
Nathalie is the Astronomy teacher, a subject not taught until she insisted it get introduced. She is a no-nonsense teacher, the type one would assume is a hard marker, and had no belief in the supernatural before all the events of the game. She was quickly determined non-suspicious to the players. Even after the game she appears to be disbelieving the evidence in front of her eyes that supernatural things may exist.

Gideon Birch
Gideon is the Physics teacher, and not terribly well-liked. He's sarcastic to the point of meanness, and doesn't seem to understand where personal limits are on what's okay and not okay to joke about -- the kind of teacher who comes off as a little sexist, a little racist, you name it; he made jokes about Alisa's death shortly after it happened and things like that. He did not believe in the supernatural before the events of the game. The players quickly determined him to be not terribly suspicious.

Jake Rutherford
Jake is an aggressive "jock" type who doesn't do well in his classes and who immediately started picking on Shuri. Little else is known about him because nobody sent anyone to investigate him except Shuri :') Players more or less ignored him as a suspect, except Shuri, who insisted he was guilty. Ilu Shuri.

Alisa Little
Alisa Little was the History teacher at St. Dominics, a young woman of 31 whose teaching skills were not highly respected by the staff. She was known to have moodswings, though overall a cheerful and outgoing spirit. She was a little too close to her students. Eventually, on joining her 'study group' for drug sessions -- where the drug was a finely-torn page of a grimoire -- she lost control on a high while hanging Christmas ornaments and threw herself off a balcony.

Mr. Sidney & Lucia Bellcourt

Lucia Bellcourt

Lucia Bellcourt was the shepherd in Game 4, a young lady of 14 or so who is an avid collector of rarities, be they human body parts, keys, bugs, or other. She has a rather lonely lifestyle, with a comatose brother, dead infant sibling, too-busy absent father, and ill and absent mother. She's grown up as a bit bratty, very intelligent, but not terribly focused; she dropped schooling the moment her parents' attention was off her, and studies codes and cyphers for her own entertainment. She clearly relies a great deal on her butler, Mr. Sidney. Although it's clear to the players that her house is haunted, Lucia denies the possibility and, whenever anyone brings up the hauntings, tends to go into hysterics; likewise, when people try to imply her brother as a ghost is trying to communicate. She seems eager for friends among the players but overly cautious regardless.

In game 5 she used the players to get artifacts in the hopes of getting her hands on the Sword, which was ultimately successful. She also drugged them and stole some of their cool stuff.

In game 6 she put the players in Bastien's soul in the hopes of getting the last 30% of the soul, which he sealed and died with the secret; a part of the sword stayed hidden in his soul to try to keep track of itself. This was less successful; Sera ate the last part of the sword, Bastien challenged her (who turns out to be his great-something-great-granddaughter), the players drove Asmodeus out, and she broke down and attacked them with the sword. It was in this state they last saw her.

Mr. Sidney

Mr. Sidney first appeared to the players as a polite and competent butler who managed Lucia's affairs for her, including arranging the game she wanted to do. He was competent in buttling, providing comforts, and cooking. As time went on it was clear he had a hidden sadistic streak; he took a dislike to Shuri, whom Lucia was flirting with and who made Lucia cry, and that night he both gave Shuri a worse meal than the others and Shuri had a bad dream of being tortured by Mr. Sidney via evisceration ( Kaname drew fanart). He also showed a possessive side, controlling situations where people were trying to get favors from Lucia. Those in limbo discovered that Mr. Sidney had demonic powers of great strength, and by the last day he wasn't particularly bothering to hide it from the other players, showing more of a joking side (if with a poor sense of humor) and offering people gambles, including a game of 'spin the bottle' with Konatsu in which he extended his tongue all the way into Konatsu's stomach :') Despite this, he maintained his role as butler to the end of the game.

He reappeared in game 5, again playing the role of Lucia's butler, though it was revealed he was actually the demon prince Asmodeus.

In game 6 he aided her in the blood magic to summon and bind Bastien's soul; however, the players used his weakness - smoked sheatfish -- to drive him out, where he had an unfortunate run-in with a familiar Italian doctor...

David

David Bellcourt is Lucia's older brother and in a coma, kept in a medical area in the house. His spirit is free, however, sending terrible nightmares, haunting closets in a dark, shadowy form, and scratching up people. He haunts both the players in the main game and those in limbo; eventually he reveals himself to Kazuki in a closet, which Kazuki has a phobia of, describing himself as a monster who can only exist when people are afraid of him. He claims to be worried about Lucia and wants to get her away from "that creature".

After the players managed to drive Asmodeus away, he revealed that he should be able to wake up in his own body now.

Various Demons around Lucia
Jez - A female hellhound. Very loyal to her mistress, but otherwise a hunting hound.
Buttons - a laid-back male hellhound. Has his name due to the buttons he has in place of eyes.
Pox - an exciteable young male hellhound. Very energetic.
Cherry Laurel - A snake demon composed primarily of zippers. Can drive, kind of. Mostly in circles.
Earl - a bear of very few words
Rand - a demon who used shadows. Now he dead of Konatsword.

The Sword/The Red Man

The Sword is an artifact that hosts a possessor-style demon. Brought back originally by Bastien, it possessed him and caused him to kill those around him; similarly, after Elli's family purchased the house many years later, the young human Luka found the sword and eventually began killing his own family until Elli killed him to stop him. The sword then fell into Konatsu's hands; from there, a random NPC, and from there eventually Lucia's. 30% of its power was sealed inside a box with only Bastien as the keeper; a part of the Sword's soul stayed with him to try to safeguard that itself, and Sera ate this part recently.

The Sword is a vicious, driven individual who usually manifests as a thin and sharp-edged young man with thin, sharp-edged blond hair, pure black eyes with black scelera, and a very wide smile. He dresses in striking red, black, and gold by preference. He uses everything about himself as a weapon, fulling his hosts with blood lusts then abandoning them when the next powerful thing comes along. Konatsu has been particularly badly burned by him.

30% or so of his power had been sealed by Bastien, so he left a fragment of himself hidden inside Bastien's soul to try to safeguard this secret himself and aiming to eventually escape with it. Although this was successful, that part of him was then eaten by Sera.

The remainder of the Sword (as well as the physical sword vessel) is with Lucia.

Dr. Alessandro "Feelgood" Filangieri

Dr. Filangieri is a medical practitioner with an office in Edinburgh and the ability to do some form of magic, as he summoned several people out of Bastien's soul with an elaborate magic circle. He is extremely Italian and fairly frequently slips Italian phrases or terms into his words.

Filangieri is a very friendly, easy-going individual, though he worries David somewhat -- but even David considers him an ally, and one whose experiments on him have helped him improve. Filangieri is also narcoleptic, absent-minded, unkempt, and generally distracted. He also talks to himself a lot.

At the end of game 6 Filangieri confronts Asmodeus before Asmodeus can return to Lucia...
