The Padres released Mark today.

Just a brief mention of his stats for the year, and nothing else.

I hope no one was shocked by this. Now the question is will he be signed by another major league team? And if not, will be go to the minors, or will this be the end of his baseball career? Let's hope he stays with the majors, but he needs to have consistent playing time.

Tough call. My guess is that if he wants to keep playing, he's more likely to be able to sign a minor league deal and then work toward a call-up. But certainly it's not at all the same environment in the minors. Couldn't blame him if he just decided to find out what comes next in his life.

There's a few pictures of him in the last page I put up, September 24 at Petco (mainly at the bottom of the page, where the team lined up to give their jerseys away in the "Shirts off their Backs" promotion) and I went ahead and pulled a few of him from September 14, too.

When I read that he was released by the Padres, I was surprised. Surprised because I thought he had a 1 year deal and would be a free agent anyway. I didn't realize that the Padres still had any rights on him. I wish him the best. I would love to see him play again next year. But whatever the future brings him, I hope it is good.

I just got a Google alert saying the Padres claimed Mark's waivers. Or are trying to. Soo we'll have to see what happens.
