I can't personally abide populism, but I am intrigued how it can share such similar sentiments across the left/right spectrum. This but from John Haidt (author of "The Happiness Hypothesis")  really teases out something that's been on the tip of my tongue for a while:

I definitely agree the assumption of morality aspect can't be avoided. It also extends into another lib/cons populist/libertarian divide on the question of whether governemnt a greater potential evil than corporations? A libertarian type tends to view the government's monopoly on violence to be a greater threat (government pulls corporate strings), whereas a more populist type tends to think that if governmnet is doing evil, it's because of pressure from a corporate (I could use the general term "special interest", but I consider everything to be "special").
