author's note: For the mini contest at brigits_flame, I've remixed slang_jockey's entry "Shadow of Self." The original's here, in case you haven't read it. This is, for all those people seeing this who are not familiar with BF, all conceptual property of slang_jockey: plot and characters. I've simply restylized it and written it the way I would ( Read more... )

Oh, this was fantastic! Of course it was; you are nothing if not a master at whatever you turn your hand to, whether it be sorrow or horror! And here you have shown that you can take the seeds of someone else's idea and grow it into something fantastical and creepy. You are poised for another win!

Amazing! I love this. I was quite excited, honored even, to see that you had chosen to remix something I had written.

Giving a voice to the thing in the mirror was great, especially at the end. Honestly, I never really thought about what happened after the 'you' in the story hits the floor. It wasn't necessary. But here it was and wow! The last line just seals the whole piece.

This is great, congrats on your contest win!

Thank you! I loved your original entry and thought it would be great fun to remix it. It called to me. :)

I noticed (perhaps erroneously) that your original story has since been published? Is that right? If so, that's pretty great. :) I'm impressed! I've never had anything published for real before. Congratulations!

I'm so glad you enjoyed this; I was worried that it wouldn't live up to your expectations (or my expectations, for that matter)!

Yes that's right, but it three years ago and it was only in an online magazine. It was exciting nonetheless. I really have the Flame to thank for that, honestly. I never would have written the piece or submitted it for publishing consideration if it wasn't for BF.

Ah, well I've quickly learned that you don't disappoint. You needn't ever worry about my expectations, though.

I've received nothing but rejections since, so I know how hard it is to try to get your writing published; have you ever tried though? I really think you should, if you haven't.

Yeah, that's still really great! I haven't tried to get anything published, to be honest ... I never know what to submit or where. I think I'm going to try submitting to one of the ones that was advertised on BF a few weeks ago, but am not entirely sure which stories I'm going to try for.

I'm also working on a novel but that's coming along suuuuper slowly. It'd be nice to have some short story publications under my belt!
