iPhone Fall Down go CRACK

May 25, 2010 22:03

En route to Ithaca, I butterfingered my iPhone and it fell face down to the concrete.

The crystal face is now webbed with interesting, artistic cracks. I call it, "Man's Inhumanity to Man". When MHA posts the picture he took, I'll relink it here.

I'll be going and making puppydog eyes at the Apple store in Sorrycuse tomorrow morning, first thing. ( Read more... )

Not entirely. Self-replacement is not an option, for various reasons, chief among them that I want the resulting unit to be covered by warranty (not that the warranty is helping me much in this situation). The only thing there that MIGHT get me somewhere is credit-card purchase protection, but it's been longer than 90 days.

Also, that was clearly a slightly old article -- they no longer even sell an 8GiB model :-D

Thanks, tho'!

Meh. Is what I get for spending all of 65 seconds trying to be helpful. Next time I work harder. ;)

Does the $97 iPhone WalMart is selling fit into this picture at all?

Alas, no. 1] The one I have is 32GiB, they'll be selling the 16GiB. 2] The $97 price is with a new 2-year contract, which I would not be eligible for, being only 6 months in to my last renewal.

I dunno, I think it lacks the drama with which you and your Crackberry parted ways. I've come to expect more from you then "I dropped it." Next time tell us that a giant eagle swept down and took it out of your hand or something along those lines.

=P

Or, if you still have the phone (because then the eagle couldn't have swooped it away), you could say that the eagle came along and kicked it with it's talons and you fought it off bravely, with the only damage being the poor dead screen.

even better: you stopped an out-of-control bus that was hurling towards a baby carriage. With your phone.

There are *tons* of local places that can replace the screen for $80-100, and it'll be as good as new. Some of them also offer warranties to go along with it.

I can't wait until I get back to the Twin Cities, unfortunately. I'll be out East until Monday.

Also, those warranties usually only cover their own work, not the phone itself. Replacing the glass will void the phone's own warranty.

Unless the iPhone warranty is different than the iPod Touch, damage caused by dropping it isn't covered by the warranty, unless they've changed their policies since I worked for them. :)

I know that :-) But I have had other things in the past for which having a valid warranty stood me in good stead. Ergo, I wanted the post-repair/replacement unit to be covered. Ergo, self-replacement was not an option.
