This is really for gamerchick, but it's gone past what I consider "comment" length...

And now, because I’m an unspeakable nerd, here’s the compiled recommendations between myself and nebulanine in chronological order (Doctor’s personal chronology, of course :-) ). Those stories that really should be watched in sequence are grouped in parentheses. I also did add a ( Read more... )

Not fond of the Black Guardian triology? You completely lose Turlough. ;)

These are recommendations to someone who has never seen the Classic series, and I'm trying to keep the sheer number of stories under control :-)

Ooh, we can get The Caves of Androzani on Netflix On Demand. I think I found what I'm doing Friday night!

ETA: Thanks again for your part in writing this all up! I feel like we have a much better jumping-off place now.

Quite a few of these are on Netflix Instant, actually, but I've found no pattern to which ones are and which ones aren't. Really, for all that I already own a healthy number of them on either VHS or DVD (or in some cases, crumbling over-the-air VHS from almost 25 years ago), I think it would extremely awesome if the entire released catalog were available that way.

I should re-watch the McGann one of these days. I think I just watched it the once... at Doc and Bu's place in Cazenovia, when it aired.

First, I see this as a nice set up for a movie day. Just saying. *smile*

Second.. Is the new stuff the 9th Doctor, then? Starting with Rose? I like him and Rose so far. I've never seen any other Doctor, though, so I have to admit to being somewhat nervous about getting to the end of that season and moving on to the next one.

Yes, beginning with "Rose" is the Ninth Doctor. There are hints in that story that he's only recently regenerated, so we presume that the Eighth Doctor fought the Time War.

The Classic Series attempted to establish a limit of 12 regenerations (13 bodies), but the New Series has never mentioned this limitation, and may ignore it when the time comes...

I can see a workaround: I believe it has been established that the 12-regeneration thing can be modified by the Time Lords. In which case, when the question comes up, they can do a flashback with McGann, Dalton, et alia, during the Time War, modifying the limit in a flash of special effects, beams shooting out from multiple Tardises, etc. perhaps revealing that Eccleston was not the 9th Doctor, but that several regenerations passed during the Time War.

Or they could just ignore it, or end it.

Also, this would be more like a movie *week* if I actually tried to show all these stories. Most of them are 4-6 episodes (100-140 minutes) long!

ooh! "the invasion" is out on DVD with the 2 missing episodes in flash animation, which fits the troughton era nicely.
also, i received 3 audio recordings of first doctor adventure novellas read by william russell for my bridal shower last year. these are -so- worth picking up!
