The protagonist of James Joyce's Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, was visualized during the writing as resembling in dress and manner Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp.  Exhaustive evidence of this can apparently be found in Joyce's personal journals from 1916-1922.  I think it's now safe to argue that the Little Tramp is the most influential figure of ( Read more... )

that's a rather bold statement. I'm going to have to say that Jessica Fletcher of Murder She Wrote fame is far more influential.

What makes for interesting Joyce reading is Stephen Hero, the discarded first draft of Portrait. Apparently the book was simply epic in length, as even after being burned several hundred pages managed to survive.
