Techie Question

So, I have a question. I'm sure that many of you use Firefox, and if you do, I need to know if I've just got a weird bug or if someone knows how to fix it ( Read more... )

Certain that it's CSS? Or could it just be that the images aren't being loaded?

Tools > Options > Content tab > Load Images Automatically should be checked. So should Javascript and Java, unless y'all have some funny security lock-down on your computers.

Also, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox won't change your specific account settings; those are deliberately left behind in your profile. You'd have to delete the Firefox folders under C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Mozilla and C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla, too, before reinstalling would really reset settings.

'Course, doing this would also lose your bookmarks, unless you backed them up, so. Kinda drastic.

Eeeesh. Yeah. I'm sure it may come down to me saving my bookmarks elsewhere. I'll let him tinker with it more tomorrow.

Mostly, it's just frustrating because it came out of nowhere and we have no idea what's causing it.

All checked. And Brazil had me go to some link which checked if certain images loaded. They all loaded. ...gee, I wish that sounded more helpful.

Kay, if Brazil's already looked at it/tinkered with it, I don't know that I know anything that'll help. But here goes anyway.

Have you looked to see if the page style is being used? That's the only option I know of in Firefox that'll take a page down to it's basics. It's view > pagestyle > basic page style.

For the bookmarks, if you try the delete everything approach, they can easily be saved if you just use another browser to import them (it's a pretty basic feature and really easy to do). Then when you re-install firefox, just import the bookmarks from that other browser. Never done it myself (the double-import that is), but it's theoretically sound.... ^o~

Good luck!

I dunno exactly what the problem was, but he fixed it somehow. Uninstalled, saved bookmarks, deleted all the firefox files, rebooted, and then reinstalled.

Thanks for the help though.

Dunno if this applies - but if you've just installed skype or something and it decided to add a Skype plug-in, it might mess with things?

I know it messed with my viewing GoogleMaps. When I uninstalled it, it all went back to normal. Have you checked your plug-ins? Did you update any internet related software recently?

I do have skype, but I don't think that was the problem. Thankfully, Brazil managed to knock some sense into it and it works now, but...it was weird. It took everything down to an almost html level and refused to work on any site.

Yay for my computer finding the really weird flukes?

And thanks for the advice!

Yeah, it's the online nickname for neromir, my husband. He served his mission for two years in Brazil, which is where Fi, Ti, Ci, and the bunch got the inspiration for his nickname. It's just stuck, I suppose.
