Songs that either sculpted who you are today or changed the way you perceived music.
5 songs with short description
5 people you have to tag

Defying Gravity-Wicked
I just don't understand how you can watch Eden Espinosa (Idina Menzel, Shoshana Bean, whoever) perform that song and then not think something to the effect of, 'she has the best job on earth...and dammit, I want it.'

All My Loving-The Beatles
.

You Raise Me Up-Josh Groban and Looking for Space-John Denver
I'll count these as one; not so much for the quality of the songs (although I do like them a lot, what with me being a sucker for the inspirational power ballad and all) but because I sang them in the 3,000 seat concert hall that is DAR, and I really think that when I sang the You Raise Me Up solo for the rehearsal at graduation in that enormous room last year was the first time I realized to myself, holy shit, that was cool.

I'm Not Afraid Of Anything-SFANW
This song is absolutely perfect. Let's look at it musically for the theory geek in all of us: It's in A major for the majority of the song, except for the chorus, when it (sort of) switches to the relative minor, F# minor. (Those of you who are taking theory will understand this within the first month or so of school this year) Why would it be in a minor key (minor='sad', usually) except to tell the listener something about how she's lying about how she's fearless? And finally, that dissonant chord that makes no sense at the end of the song? If a chord has ever been used to convey emotion, that's the best example I can find. Dammit, she is afraid. She's terrified. That's why musically, the song technically doesn't end...neither has her story.

And although I hate to admit it, this song is me a lot of the time. I mean, I like babies and I can swim...but yes.

Black Rock-O.A.R.
Dude, they mention MoCo and everything on the 34th and 8th album! lyke, omgz!@@1!!3!one

.../ive run out of ideas, i'll come back to that last one

PS if anyone wants a clip of Eden singing Defying Gravity, i'll send it...it's so worth the fourteen seconds it'll take to transfer online.
