What is wrong with my mother's computer?

Trying to explain to my mom how to get her webcam to work with Skype is taking years off my life. At least, she can see me and I can hear her. Which I can't understand since she is using her webcam as a microphone as well. The worst part is that it worked at one point. I could see and hear her when I was in New Zealand

There's a place in heaven reserved for those who help moms with technical issues. See if you can get a teenager in her hometown to give a service call for 50 bucks. It'll be worth every minute.

I once spent LITERALLY AN HOUR trying to explain how to make my mom's vcr record something for her brother.
