No to FFXI

Mar 16, 2010 19:49

I have done nothing productive today. Lazy, lazy lazy. I even tried playing ffxi again. Unfortunately, I got really bored. Or, is that fortunately? Without Roguebender, it just isn't the same. The character I was given had limited gear and no gil (money). I have no intention of investing any time to get back to where I was. So, I'll just ( Read more... )

I was going to suggest to your better half re his ASU post that Hawaii had a good math department. Maybe time for a sea change.

I don't think you could survive on the pay cut moving to NZ.

I had a pimped out Hume 75 BRD, BLM, RDM, COR, RNG, WAR and BLU. Actually, my warrior wasn't all that pimp and I didn't enjoy playing it. I also had a 68 DNC when I quit. But, I really found that job to be pointless.

I finished ToAU. But, I didn't really do that much in WotG. I invested a good five years of my free time playing that game and it's hard to just start fresh again with next to nothing. At least, not without buying gil. I have no idea how you did it.

My other half got LM-17ed last year and I decided to just sell my character rather than continue on without him. Plus, I had sort of done everything. What got you banned?

What in the world prompted you to play a Galka BLM? ;-)

Have you kept in contact with any of your old linkshell mates? If so, are they planning on going to the same server? I was on Pandemonium, btw.

This situation renewed my belief that if I ever play another mmo, it'll have to be upon release. It always bothered me that the JP had a head start on the NA players. I want a level playing field from the beginning. That's probably why I was unable to get into WoW. I enjoyed it. But, I didn't like everyone else being so much better than I was.

WotG was a dud expansion, imo.

The best thing they ever came out with was level sync. It made the game so much more fun. It's nice to actually be able to create parties. There was nothing worse than sitting around for literally hours waiting for that one missing ingredient to log in. Or, begging every non anon person who had a job you required to join your party. I'm amazed I survived past those stages because it wasn't fun and a major design flaw.

The people I played the game with and have on Facebook are usually people I have nothing else in common with aside from the game. Not all. But most.

I don't understand the appeal of the FF-MMO anymore. I actually hate the game more and more as time goes on.

They made a ton of improvements over the years. The problem was that it took YEARS for them to make them.

With a new account, if I start out taru taru and you start out as human, how long would it take for our characters to meet with no outside help?

Would I be able to solo anything at all for XP after level 15?

Would I be able to kill anything at all for XP after level 30 if my party did not have a healing class?

Would my party be wiped out if there was a second or third add in any given fight?

Campaign and FoV have indeed improved the game greatly. Every zone has a few hovering books located at entrances where you can sign up to kill X mobs of this or that and once you've killed them, you get nice extra exp (similar to WoW actually) and "tabs ( ... )

So you liked Auckland so much you'd actually want to live here? Just remember you'd have to wear sweaters and any hopes of home ownership would go away for a very long time.

However the place *is* filled with Space Hippies so Rochus would have people to play with.

The biggest obstacle to even considering a move to NZ would be to find a decently paid, secure job as a university math instructor.

they're just like the UK, Canada, Germany and most other countries where all faculty equals research faculty. Check out that page..

http://www.math.auckland.ac.nz/Research/interests.php

they're not employing anyone who is not a research professor. They may call some of them "lecturers" or "senior lecturers", but in reality those are just ranks for tenured professors.

I've actually given serious thought to getting a work visa and working as a nurse in New Zealand or Australia, just for the experience.

That would be a great experience. But, quite a culture shock after living in the Big City. Of course, they have weird accents too, so you probably wouldn't feel too out of place. ;-)

I'm kinda over the big city. The only think keeping me here is my career and theatre.

Being a nurse, I'm sure you could move and find a job. But, you'd never have access to the entertainment choices you have in NYC anywhere else. I am quite jealous at the options you have.
