“Where has he gone?” says Thorin, glancing at Grace as she unravels the makeshift pillow and puts the hoodie then Ori’s sweater back on. He reaches behind her and pulls out the hood from beneath the woolen sweater. He turns back to meet Gandalf’s curious gaze. “There is nothing here for miles, and if the orc pack should find him -”
“Then he will be spared a search.”
“What?” Thorin steps towards Gandalf, bristling. “Is he going to betray us? Gandalf, what did you say to him?”
“Oh, betray, betray, betray,” Gandalf scolds, stepping back from Thorin to sit on the edge of the water trough. “Is there no other thought you will not jump to first?” Thorin stalks forward and Gandalf waves him off. “No, no, Thorin Oakenshield, he is not going to betray you.”
Thorin’s face hardens when he hears his epithet, but he stops advancing, and waits for Gandalf to explain himself.
“He does not like orcs crossing his lands. If he finds them, he will likely give chase - did you know, a bear can outrun a deer? A bear Beorn’s size, why, surely a warg will be hard pressed to stay ahead of him.”
Grace gulps, imagining the sheer size of the bear that Beorn must turn in, considering how large his is as a man.

** I'll still be plugging away at this, but I won't feel like I have to stay up until 5 a.m. to get the day's word count out, and I sure as hell will mix it up with prompts and other things I need to write and do (fanmixes oh god fanmixes). Still, whoot!
