Covered In Punk

Nov 05, 2005 04:58

So, considering that I'm a complete cover song whore, I've been looking for new and interesting covers. Considering that there really hasn't been an original punk tune in, oh, about twenty-three years, most of the covers that I've been running across are those of the pop punk variety.

One of the real gems that I tripped over last night is doing ( Read more... )

Gin and Juice! Gin and Juice! Shit, there are a TON of good songs on this list.

That's right, you don't like the Stones. Go suck it.

Really though, I'm glad to see a post by you! =)

Do you like Ska? Ive been kicking it up Ska-style again recently and having a kickass time... because I, like you, think that Punk died with Blink 182.

Random cover you might like: "Wonderwall" by Ryan Adams. Its about 10x better than the Oasis original. Try it.

Considering the amount of general hatred that I hold for Oasis, it wouldn't be hard for any cover to be better. Actually, that's not true ... if The Cure were to cover it, it would most certainly be worse (though not by much).

I've been known to listen to some ska on occasion. Suicide Machines did a great cover of End of the World, and Skankin' Pickle (goddamnit ... why aren't they still around?) put out an album (The Green Album) with mostly nothing but obscure covers.

I dunno ... I'm one of those that would argue that punk died with CRASS and DKs. Then again, I do love me some Screeching Weasel.

Still, try "wonderwall" by Ryan Adams.. Its a fantastic cover.

Skankin' Pickle has been practically reborn in Aquabats.. see "I missed the bus" or "Cat with two heads"

Would that DK be the Dead Kennedy's? Surely not! Jello Biafra is a god!

Its actually damned surprising how much old school punk was still released through the mid 1990's... and the punk-ska awesome fusion that went on during that time too.. goddmaned delicious.

You must have heard Reel Big Fish's covers of Ah-ha's "Take on me" and Van Morrisons "Brown Eyed Girl" right?

Y'know, I've heard that statement regarding Skankin' Pickle and the Aquabats before, and I've just never been able to see it. I'm funky that way ... hate Cannibal Corpse, but can listen to Six Feet Under, for example.

Yep, it's the Kennedys, and I still have a lot of trouble taking the political views and advice of a person named "Jello" seriously. The only thing I can say about them is that there's always room for them.

Yeah, of all the Take On Me covers, RBF easily does the best (though there is an absolutely HORRID trance remix of it out there that's giving them a run for their money).

Hey, here's something that I haven't been able to figure out ... why has Kid Rock, in all his white trash suckage, not found the time to record a cover of Nine Inch Nails' The Only Time? It even reads like one of his originals.

i'm drunk ( ... )
