Quite compelling, and slightly ... creepy? Not sure if that's the right word. Perhaps unsettling. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

One nit -- you might check your prophesy v. prophecy. I think there's a few places where you use the second in place of the first.

The soldier smiles reflexively at the joke.That's the moment when the hair rose on the back of my neck. Eeeeeeeeeeeeep. His future-tense dialogue was subtly and brilliantly handled throughout
