What do you do when you know you're going to die? Finding out now.

I truly love your work, but the one thing I find unusual about this story (compared to your previous writing) is how hopeless it became...and very early on. With each chapter I was expecting a plot element that would arch towards at least the possibility of something other than inevitable insanity and destruction. But it seems now that the whole point of this story is an exploration of how these two particular characters would exist in a nightmare world where hope has vanished.

I probably should have anticipated this direction in your writing as I reflect on your last story. I look forward the resolution which I anticipate will be some emotional catharsis, which, knowing you, will probably render me speechless. Kudos. Until the 28th then.

When ths fic was first thought up and discussed, it was starting from a morbid humor regarding deathfic. It developed very, very far past that, and the more it did so, the more I wanted to make absolutely clear to readers what this story is and what it's going to be. Because, as you say, there's the expectation of a plot twist turning things around. That's how we expect stories to work. This is why I've tried to make it as clear as possible that this is not going to be the resolution of this story.

I'm not sure what you mean...?

Didn't mean to be obscure - in your last one, the Strangers/Watches crossover, we only know one Universe is reunited. The Stranger verse, even if reunited, results in certain death for both characters - and it will be even worse if the wrong John goes back because then Sherlock will have a John that doesn't speak his language again.

So what I meant was that your fiction was getting darker and ended with character death - even though it was not as spelled out and graphic as in this story.

“I’ll make it amazing, John. It will be the best way anyone has ever died. I promise.”

I decided to read the last two parts all at once! ...moving along...
