End of Buffy

Jun 26, 2008 08:25

I finished the last episode of season seven of Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night.

For those of you who haven't seen Buffy, give it a shot. It is widely considered to be an influential series and is superbly written, acted, and directed, despite the funny name. (And I won't even mention the musical episode, which sounds ridiculous, but is done ( Read more... )

I haven't seen any Angel at all. I have heard differing opinions on it though. I've heard it's not as good, more "adult", more "political", and/or darker. Your thoughts?

Netflix does have it though. I think I'd buy the Buffy DVDs and try to watch things in order because I know there's crossover between the two series.

Ah, but the beauty of Netflix is that if you don't like it, send it back!

I haven't seen it, so can't say.

Awww, no goodbyes, just good memories!

I adore Buffy - the laughs, the hugs, the tears, the satisfaction. I also completely agree that it's about female empowerment and the hero's journey, but there's so much more to it that I can't even put into words. It's an amazing show and I'm surprised that I waited so long to give it a try.

I really hope that you give Angel a try. I love BtVS but Angel is the one that I (so far) really want to buy. I hope to have both in time, but the spinoff is what gets me going more emotionally. It is darker and it is more adult but that's one of the best things about it. It's like watching Doctor Who and then watching Torchwood - both awesome but somehow the more adult Torchwood is what captures my heart more.

Give Angel a try. I'd love to hear what you think. Plus, the crossovers just ROCK.

Oh, and thanks for not spoiling me with your end of Buffy post! I'm in mid Season 5, and watching them concurrently with Angel means that I have about six seasons of watching left!

Oh, I know that "no goodbyes" line. Tasha in ST:TNG. I cried. (Yes, I was a major Trekker back in the day.)

I think I will try Angel and will, of course, post about it. Gotta grab the Buffy DVDs first.

And no problem for not spoiling. I thought of you and was able to say what I wanted to without spoilage. :)

Oh yes, Tasha. :( I grew up on Trek TOS, then finally branched to TNG, VOY, and DS9. DS9 will always be my favorite, although I like them all. I never could get into Enterprise, though.

I am glad you're going to try Angel, and would love to read your thoughts about it as you go. Now, I'm getting ready to post more about both shows. My Angel parts will be spoilers for you. I still want to post them together in one post, though. I will try to bold the sections so you'll know what to not read if you want.

Aww, thanks for thinking of me. I've been skipping over than Angel parts of your posts okay, but bolding would help. :)

Kira Nerys was a great character. I love strong women. Capt. Janeway was the bomb for me though. Strong, feminine, motherly, intelligent, respected, able to kick some serious butt when needed. You would lay down your life for her in a second just because you didn't want her to be disappointed in you and know she'd do the same for you.

She's a great example of balance, which is something I am constantly striving to achieve.

Aaaaw. Buffy-ness. =) Hurray!

I still think "We saved the world. I say we party." should have made it into the last ep. :) But it was a wonderful series. Joss is one of the few masters around. (Not that he doesn't have a weak moment now and then--we shall not speak of season six)

Ahh, yes, season six. I think I need to warm up to season seven more than season six, but I understand why folks have an issue with six. Very different feel and the pacing was slower...
