Unfinished Snippets. From any point in the year so far, really.
[Dragon Age]
She’s been living on her own in the woods for two weeks when the messenger from Fereldan comes to find her. She wonders, upon seeing them, if they found out where she was from Sten. The idea seems ridiculous but she’s not quite sure how they managed to find her in the middle of nowhere. The human warrior gives her a strange look when they first find her.
“The Wardens require you’re services,” Mhairi says to her. Mahariel sends a message to Sten and follows her back to Fereldan.
When Mahariel meets Alistair in Vigil’s Keep he’s as cold as he was when they last spoke.
“Still polite, I see,” she says sarcastically. He glares at her; she glares back. For a moment the King and Warden-Commander seem a lot like bickering children. Everyone watching pretends the moment never happened.
(When Loghain comes to visit on behalf of the Orlesian Wardens she listens to him talk and hides a laughing smile behind her hand; a voice in her head tells her ‘you made the right choice.’)
[Mass Effect]
“There’s a card for you,” Ashley informs her when she wakes up; she moves from her sitting position to stand at the end of the bed. Shepard turns her head to see a folded note on the table next to her; just the idea of moving to pick it up is tiring, so she looks back at Ashley.
“Where’s Joker?” she asks instead. Ashley frowns.
“He went to get some sleep,” she answers. “He’ll be disappointed he keeps missing you.” Shepard laughs involuntarily for a moment but stops with a wince of pain.
“I’ve got to get back to helping out,” Ashley says as she moves around the bed; she picks up the note from the side table and hands it to Shepard. Ashley stops in the doorway on her way out and turns back to Shepard with a smile. “It’s good to have you back, Commander.”
(On the note in an eloquent handwriting are the words: another life can wait a little while.)
[Until Dawn]
When Sam hears someone she jerks around to look quickly and is relieved to find it’s just Mike and Josh.
“We need to get inside now,” Mike whispers in a panic; he’s got a death grip on Josh’s wrist like he’s worried he’s going to just disappear at any moment. Josh is too out of it to be any help getting them inside, so Sam picks up a rock and breaks the glass. Mike quickly pushes Josh in ahead of him but still doesn’t let go of his wrist; he looks a little bit like he wants to grab Sam’s wrist too just to avoid losing track of anyone.
“We should check if the others made it to the basement,” she suggests in a whisper.
