BEN TERRORIZES PORTLAND; Citizens flee in panic

Dec 30, 2008 12:43

Dec 19-26: Snowpacalypse/Snowmageddon/Snowgasm 2008 renders Ben and parents housebound, unable to so much as leave the house for groceries. Cabin fever leads to mysterious murders and paranormal activity. Criminal investigation still underway. Jack Nicholson detained for questioning.

Saturday, Dec 27: Left Noob-erg! Went to yoga. Met the_drifter and misshepeshu for lunch at Ya Halla, a great Lebanese place with an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu. Went thrift shopping on Hawthorne, discovered that men's pants are now almost all too big for me, and that a women's size 3 is big enough that I can pull it down off my ass without unbuttoning or anything. Hmm. Got good Thai food for dinner with auroraintheskye and her friend Chris. Planned to go dancing at the queer night at Holocene with the_drifter and misshepeshu, except that we all fell asleep watching Margret Cho instead, thereby living up to our newly coined collective name Team Homeostatic Fail™. Because the three of us when together are either manic crazy or like narcoleptic puppies in a pile.

Sunday: Brunched at the fantastic Mississippi Station with the_drifter and misshepeshu plus Robert. Srsly, how does this place magically not have a line out the door? One of the best brunches I've had in Portland. Parted ways with friends for some solo time in the Powell's coffee shop on Hawthorne. Then to Acroyoga! That's right, as soon as I move away, an Acroyoga teacher moves to Portland. Sheesh. The class was fun, but also a bit disappointing because it was a pretty beginning level class. On some of the stuff we were doing, I was more experienced than the teacher. I tried to be helpful without overstepping my role as a student in the class. That's okay though. When I come back here the community will have built up some. After acro I met for dinner with jle_on_toast who was back on break from grad school in DC. We tried to go to Jarra's for Ethiopian tastiness, but they were closed. Why is it that I ALWAYS try to go there on Sundays? Next attempt was the Bombay Cricket Club, which was fully booked with reservations. We ended up at India Oven, which was still rather tasty. Next was the Pink Martini concert in the Crystal Ballroom! I <3 Pink Martini. I will say though, I wish that there had either been a real dance floor or chairs to sit on. I don't like the halfway in between style where you have to stand the whole time but no one does anything more than sway a bit. Following the concert, we went to Coffee Time, where we were model patrons by eating our leftover Indian Food.

Monday: Spent most of the day at home with my parents. Played Carcassonne, played the piano. Drove up to the city specifically to go to Partner Acro at Do Jump!, but arrived to find that it had been canceled because even with the heaters going it was only 47 degrees inside. Not the best environment for stretching and acroing. Crystal and I had made plans to meet after acro, but she proved impossible to get a hold of yet again. My consolation prize was dinner with Candy and Robert at the Malay Satay Hut. The curry is so damn good there I had to ignore my vegetarianism and eat the lamb curry. And it was totally worth it. We went back to Candy's and played cards and board games.

Today: Hang out with auroraintheskye.

Tomorrow: New Year's Eve. Plans still in flux. Various options I'm considering: hippie/spiritual/yoga kirtan and dance party; the annual burner warehouse dance party; Bouncy Castle party at the Morlock Pit; Candy's friend's NEU! Year's Eve Party, to celebrate "the electro-futurists of the late 70s, who made electronic music before electro went pop. Who used synthesizers before synthesizers sounded good. Alienating and Germanic, rather than sappy;" and, probably something else I'm forgetting. Any other parties or events I should know about? Where are you going to be? The first two things I mentioned require money, which is a definite point against them. Any votes or wisdom on where I should go? That's right, who wants me, bitches? Convince me that I should spend New Years with YOU.

Jan 1-8, 2009: Still in Portland. Here for your visiting and socializing pleasure. Let's make plans.

snow!, food, music, friends, acroyoga, yoga, family
