well, i have not updated for the last 10 days because it was all kind of busy :)
anyway, here it is:
friday, july 4: happy national holiday to the u.s. ;)
sofiep and nelly were at a whitesnake and def leppard concert up until the small hours, because the trucks of the bands were late crossing a border or some such stupid reason.
saturday, july 5: wake up early, and leave for Kavarna (~600km) for the annual 'rock fest'. Manowar concert in the evening. they cut one of the support bands so that they could make time for "the main event" - trying to set a Guinness record for the longest heavy metal concert by a single band. i ought to say, it was pretty successful - they played for just over 5 hours, despite a couple glitches. i have a hard time imagining how they really did it - i believe most singers would consider an hour and a half to be a pretty good accomplishment, and as for the rest of the band - well, we weren't playing on stage, and most of the audience was already quite tired by the end of the concert at ~3am. all in all - 5/5. that said - here is a recipe for a guinness record in the concert field:
1. Be epic. (search the '101 rules of power metal' if you have no idea what this refers to) :)
2. Have many songs.
3. Sing most of them, even though the younger portion of your audience may not know the older ones (portion of the concert that was ~2:30 hours).
4. Include long seemingly-random variations on a theme in some songs.
5. Talk to the audience - although it didn't seem more than in a 'normal' concert, the length of the thing made for a few more interruptions.
6. Make pauses between songs slightly longer. This was probably only a matter of a couple seconds, but they would add up after a while.
7. Do not forget to leave ample time for solos of all the band's members, some of them twice. It entertains the audience and lets everyone else catch a breath.
8. Have the endurance to go on and on for hours. Hard. Or maybe use alcohol to numb the pain.
another funny thing that happened at this concert was a first for me - the band calling the audience back for the encore. :) they said they had technical issues and that when the main part of the concert ended, an impatient crew started unplugging the equipment, but it was still funny how we waited and waited (and shouted and what-not), and when after a while we decided they aren't coming back and started moving out, they did.
sunday, july 6 - wake around noon, go have mussels for lunch, have nelly get some sort of food poisoning (i am inclined to blame the restaurant for that - we have eaten several times now at the one across the street, and it was all fine), get some beach time in the afternoon before the next concert.
alice cooper was all about the show. i am not a great fan of his music, although there certainly were more than a few of those around in the audience, but his stage presence and set-ups were awesome.
monday, july 7 - pretty lazy. the concert for the night was In Flames, and then Slayer. the moment we went into the stadium, i felt the sound was up a level from the previous two night. i wanted to hear the in flames portion, and it was really good, but then slayer really made that last point obvious. we didn't feel like staying in much after the start (not really anyone's style of music), and so we left, went... i don't know, perhaps a kilometer away, and we could hear the music pretty well out there too...
tuesday - travel home. nothing much.
wednesday to friday - very busy at work. (as is today, btw, but today i feel rather stupid and unable to answer people's questions for some reason. this is bad, as i am supposed to be supporting them more)
weekend - saturday was a completely "lost" day - nothing happened, and i hardly left the bed; sunday i tried going to a magic prerelease, but got crushed quickly. i don't know if i should blame the 13th or just myself, but who cares? then in the evening, went to visit parents because it had been a while.
that's all.
