I think this just shows how out of touch the hierarchy of the Church is with the people of the Church. Sure, there would be scandal if the Pope suddenly advocated using condoms but I think people would get over it. It would certainly help in places where AIDS and other STDs are killing large percentages of the people.
In other news, the shortage of priests might take care of having a local parish priest if the numbers continue to drop as they are right now. Marriage? Oh wait, but then we might have to allow gay marriage ;)
I've looked into several liberal Catholic groups and it's nice to know that they are out there. 27 people walked out of 9 AM mass at Blessed Sacrament when the bishop's forced homily was played and they also wrote an open letter to him in the paper asking him not to come out for the amendment. Everyone interprets their beliefs differently and that's the problem with taking orders from a bunch of old men...
