I'm going to blame itllcometome for this. We've been talking about the current arc of Batman and Robin, issues 4-6 via messages and my thoughts are too long to include in a message.

SO here you go, girl!

First of all, let me say, I read Batman RIP. It was boring, so I don't know what all these fanboys are talking about, it being so great. Then again, some ( Read more... )

way too much thought on this, -tt-, batman and robin, comics, jason todd

Okay, I lied. I'll join in on this fun tonight. But just a bit so I can comment on the costume.

At first? I absolutely HATED it and thought it was ridiculous. I mean, the skull? That lipstick tube? What happened to the badass?

But then, Jason starts talking about Batman being nothing but a brand? The costume is meant to be ridiculous and campy and I think Jason knows it. It's his version of a "superhero." The cape? Random symbol? Everybody has those. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern? Even Booster Gold has a giant star on his chest. It's like he's making fun of him with his new digs. It's his "brand."

....Despite the fact that it still looks ridiculous.

Word, sister. Word.

I mean the original helmet is interesting. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the streamlined look with the smaller helmet.

But it's interesting he takes the very oldest version of the costume in his battle against what he says is the new face of crime.

Itllcometome said it best and I'm gonna quote her on this... Keep religion out of his MO. That whole red right hand crap was Morrison.... off his rocker stuff.

I read this somewhere and thought it was kind of interesting about Jason and Scarlet's HQ, how it was that tractor-trailer thing/Hummer/whatever the hell it was? That it's just another tragic aspect about Jason being the family black sheep. It's all so very tragic that he's once again homeless.

POOR BABY.

I completely agree. But looking at the picture now I can forgive the tube helmet, if they got rid of that cape! Oh, I know. The costume was totally ridiculous. BUT, the cape is traditional Superhero thing. That's what makes it so fabulously campy, and a bit of a dig at Superheroes; but also the sense of that desperate need to look like a superhero ( ... )

I stopped Batman & Robin after issue #3, not for any personal disappointment but just out of laziness. I got behind and decided to wait it out as I have had very little trust in Morrison.

I didn't read through your post all of the way b/c ha spoilers! but I did catch the Damien remark. I love him too <3

Morrison is hit and miss for me. I skimmed through RIP and it wasn't really all that interesting to me.

But I'm loving Batman and Robin. Seriously.
And Oh, Damian is awesome. He and Jason need to have more interaction.

Okay, honestly? I'm not convinced it is Jason. I have a cracked out theory that it's the Joker impersonating him, but I can't yet account for Dick not being at all surprised by the look of him versus how he looked in BftC.

I want to wait on another artist before I say anything definitive, but he hasn't got Jason's facial structure. His face is too long. It's been bothering me since I saw it.

Hahah! I never thought that way, so maybe that's why parts were a bit more enjoyable to me? Idk.

Oh goodness. Tan's art on Jason is completely off.
I'd like to see the script for that -- I mean did Morrison specifically call for him to look like Rorschach or what?
What I find most interesting about this change is that in a recent Batman cover (693), Daniel had the faces of people who were going to appear in the book.
Jason's face -- a broad face, red domino mask, with black hair appears. This is the one that is clearly most recognizable.

Uh, if I was on my IJ, I would have my keris icon. Yeah, I'm going to go backwards here, bare with me.

The only person the Joker knew about in the family was Jason. He did kill him, after all. It would be the one legitimate thing that would mindfuck everything and still work, since GM said Bruce being in the past won't have any baring on it and Batman Annual #25 establishes Jason pre-Batman as a dark haired street kid. However, compare the facial shapes from the killing joke above compared with the shot of Jason doing his 'it's much too late for that speech' compared to Jason's and you may see what I mean.

It's not just Tan. Morrison commented on his hair being dyed, receeding and having of the acne so I think Tan just went with what he was told. Did miss his curl though, I admit.

Against his red right hand? That was about Black Glove, which has killed Bruce. I can see why Jason would be pissed (again, the only other person villain wise who really hated them was the Joker) at them about that.

Wait, I thought Bruce died when he shot Darkseid with an Omega Beam??

I've heard speculation that Jason was working for Hurt/the Black Glove.
I don't think so. I think he was working on his own, being his badass self.
