Declawing Pets

A while back I got into a small disagreement with a few friends in TTTNE over declawing cats. A couple people made some offhand remarks about declawing being cruel. We always declawed our cats. It would be very hard for me not to do it in the future. I am so not an animal person (even though they seem to like me a lot)

My rules have always been the animal and the house cannot smell or be dirty because of the pet and they can't damage any of the furniture. Declawing seems less cruel than the what would have happen if either hubby had gotten pissed about the shredded furniture.

I hear where you are coming from Ben. You were just a kid and it just seemed natural to you. I was raised with natural cats who had their claws, went out hunting and were not spayed.

I can't claim any superiority because I have never declawed. I'm going by my experience. I lost a cat because I didn't get her fixed and I have felt bad about it ever since.

You got educated on the issue and admitted you were wrong--Well Done.

Don't sweat it, Ben.

Cats are happiest when they have their claws, can go outside and can kill small creatures with said claws. Mine don't go outside, which is a grief to them until they remember how terrifying it is. ;)

Cheer up, dude! Arguing with friends always suck. Especially on the board.
