I'm so sorry the news isn't better, and that you have to deal with all these tests and decisions. But, it sounds like potentially good news about your insurance. I'll be crossing my fingers that the doctors find an option you are comfortable with, and that your insurance comes through.
And, as the others said, feel free to vent here anytime. We're thinking of you!
If you do decide to get the implants, can you tell them that you'd like some cool superpower upgrades? As a sci-fi geek, you have to at least ask, right? ;-)
I didn't even think of superpower upgrades and I should have! At the very least I should be able to pick up radio stations or alien signals from Alpha Centauri.
My right ear has been compensating a little by getting a little extra then I used to when I was relying on two aids. I've been concentrating a bit more and trying to pick up as much as possible. I'm also relying on lip reading a lot more than I have in years. No one seems to have noticed until I've told them about the problem. I still have my right hearing aid to use on the phone so no problem there.
The biggest change is that the world seems much quieter with only one hearing aid. When I'm driving I can hardly hear the radio at all anymore. It's been harder to hear things at work too. I haven't been able to enjoy things such as music like I used to and that's been the hardest.

How has daily life changed? Are you able to use a phone? How do you compensate in ordinary daily interactions?
