Haha, and there I thought you'd enjoy artsy cinema. ;-) Though to be fair, I've already SEEN Diarios de Motocicleta. But then I have a giant girlboner for Gael García Bernal. I can't decide!
That is a very smart idea, my friend! :D (Though just thinking about Motorcycle Diaries and all the personal connections I have with this movie makes me giddy with warm fuzziness.)
The movie also really means a lot to me personally. It came out while I was in Argentina and something not a lot of people know, is that El Che actually spent a large part of his childhood at a town called Alta Gracia (near Córdoba, where I stayed) because his parents thought the air was good for asthma.
They've turned his childhood home into a museum and while the movie was being promoted, both Alberto Granado (Che's actual travel companion) and Rodrigo de la Serna (who played Granado) were at the museum to talk to people about the movie, Che and the travels. It was extremely touching and an amazing experience.
I was thinking about re-watching Y tu mamá también the other day because Gael (and Diego) aside, that's another really fun movie. And god, I loved him in La Mala Educación. I really need to watch more of his work. *g*
It might just be Diarios de Motocicleta tonight.
Thanks for listening to my little ramble. ;-) I still remember Granado sitting at the front at the desk, being so close to tears as he spoke about Che and their friendship. In a way it was almost painful to this an old man struggle with tears over a lost, dear friend. It was truly, truly touching.
And then I remember him talking about his life in Cuba and how he loved Cuba. And something said that he only said that because he wanted more milk, (because obviously, Cuba being Cuba, everything is allocated by the government and speaking positively about Cuba as an Argentine would make Fidel assign more milk to you, or something.)
I've seen Diarios de Motocicleta (Motorcycle Diaries is the English title) at the movies back in Argentina in 2004 when it originally came out. It's an amazing movie and I definitely recommend it. (500) Days of Summer caters to my recent Joseph Gordon-Levitt crush. ;-)
