Happy new year!
My goal next year is to eat healthy and exercise. I'm crossing my fingers that i'll actually have the self discipline to do it.

I agree with this. I tried WW 3 times, the only one that took at all was a WW at work where I was going with people I knew. WW canceled the program because not enough people were participating and WW wasn't making enough money off the meetings.

If you think a support group will help try TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). They are much less expensive, have weekly weigh-ins to keep you on track and a group of people who are trying to lose weight. They do (or did) have a program including a book with recipes and strategies for losing weight, but it is never pushed and you can chose any method that you are comfortable with. Again, a lot depends on if you click with the particular group, but I found TOPS to be helpful.

Man, too bad they cancelled what worked for you! :( They still offer the WW at work program over here but everybody at my work is pretty skinny and it's hard enough admitting to myself just how much weight I need to lose (40 pounds), let alone to anybody at my work. Ack.

Sadly TOPS isn't available over here, but they sound great!

From what I've understood from their website, they've recently made changes to their points program, so that a lot of things are categorized as 0 points now, meaning they're neutral and you can eat as many as you need. But obviously, there are still plenty of things that you can only eat in moderation, i. e. they remain "bad" or "treats".

Agreed on the meetings though! If the person leading it is doing a poor job, the program itself doesn't matter. As for the online program, I clearly can see paying as a motivation for myself to actually stick with it. I know that I won't be buying any of their food products because I eat mostly organic and their stuff is not, so I wouldn't mind spending the money on a program.

I've done some googling because I'm looking for a community type of thing but most forums I found simply didn't appeal to me and didn't offer any great tools. Maybe I just need to give this a try.

Thank you for your thoughts and Happy New Year to you too! ♥

If you want to change the way you eat and eat healthier I suggest reading 'Eat To Live' by Joel Fuhrman. I lost 20lbs the first 3 weeks. I stick by the 15 minutes of exercise a day and the gym 2 times a week. I splurge on ice cream or something sweet twice a week. I don't deny myself what I like but I eat it in moderation. I also stick with the philosophy that it isn't about losing weight it is about being healthy.

I've always struggled with my weight and it was way up there and this has definitely helped me.

Thanks for the tip! 20lbs in 3 weeks is a lot! Wow.

Are you still doing the program or have you previously done it before? Did you gain anything back? I skimmed over the book and while I agree that we eat in a way that evolution doesn't agree with, I also know that cutting back on potatoes, pasta, rice and cereal would be REALLY hard for me. Meat and fish I can do. But bread is hard. ;-) I'm wondering whether this is to drastic a change for me to go with in the long run, you know?

I started it a month ago and am still doing it. I will admit, the first two weeks were horrible for me because my body was literally 'detoxing' from all the preservatives and crap in the food I was eating. You will crave the stuff that you ate before for the first couple of weeks because your body wants it ( ... )

My experience with WW was very different from the other posters here. I'm doing it completely on-line and I'm very satisfied. I don't use any of the WW food products, although I find the Points Calculator helpful when I'm shopping ( ... )

Thank you for your thoughts/sharing your experience! The program (both online and meetings) seemed great because of its flexibility. The people from my parents' neighborhood I referenced above heartily dug in whenever we met them a my uncle's birthday party. I never got the "Well, this is absolutely forbidden forever and ever" attitude from them. It always seemed like something you could incorporate into a busy lifestyle too.

I think I might give meetings and online a try for a month each and then just compare what I like best.

Thanks again for your opinion! ♥
