Weightwatchers. #2

Jan 09, 2011 17:59

My first few days with Weight Watchers are over, my first week nearly done, and so far, things have been great. I've been losing weight and never once have I been hungry (well, I have but than I was able to EAT!) My first impression of the program is really positive and it doesn't feel like dieting at all ( Read more... )

Great to hear it's working out for you, hon! This is exactly why I like WW - flexibility and tools that do the math for me. I'll go a long way to avoid doing math. Speaking of which - if you have an Android based phone, go to the Android Marketplace and look up 'PointsPlus'. You can upload a free points calculator to your phone. It's pretty nifty.

As for the flour - the more fiber something has, the fewer points. That might explain the discrepancy.

Good luck!

I have an iPhone and downloaded their app. Sadly, the calculator part only works if you're a subscriber to the WW US site and since I'm a subscriber to the German page, I can't fully use the app. And there is sadly no local app.

I was comparing whole wheat flour with whole spelt flour. You'd think both being whole, they'd have the same points value. Turns out, spelt has more, even though one always thinks that spelt is more healthy than wheat. But yeah, it must be the fibers.

Thanks!

Spelt contains some natural fat. But it's heart healthy fat!

Hah, see! *g* Esp. during the weekend (when I tend to cook fresh myself and skip breakfast altogether due to sleeping in), I wonder what to do with all those extra points. Since I don't eat meat and only little fish, my meals are often lower in points. So I'll definitely be able to stick with spelt. :)

Yay! Glad that you've found a program that seems to fit your needs, that's the only way to go really. I wish I could do WW but I came pretty close to a state of anorexia last year because I have control issues... I dare not attempt anything with points or calorie counts. I hope it keeps you motivated long enough for you to reach your goals!

Also, hello there ;)

Hello there to you too! :)

Ack, WW + control issues =/= good. Sorry it didn't work for you! (Though, I think to remember I've seen pictures of you and you didn't look like you needed to lose weight in the first place?)

It's working for me so far. I'm pretty stoked about seeing the first changes of my body, manifesting itself in the way my clothes start to fit me better. That's a pretty awesome feeling.

Well, I used to be pretty overweight... like, 95 kg, or so. Decided that it wasn't going to be my life so I pulled myself together and just did it on my own. Ate better + exercised. Got to 54 kg (skinny side of normal weight for me), but then the control issues started and I went lower to about 47 kg (which is underweight). I again decided that it wasn't going to be my life so I knocked it back up to 54 kg. It was good, but then I was hit with depression and now my body is fucked ten ways from Sunday. I am not overweight but I'm definitely not skinny anymore, either, and my body form has changed because I've been forced to sit down all day for months. I need to drop a few kg and tone up a bit. I just need some energy to do it... and preferably my depression needs to fuck off 'cause it's a huge obstacle when it comes to losing weight.

So glad you've found something that works for you!

I'm glad to hear it's working out well for you! I've had friends go on WW and it always worked for them. I started watching what I eat about 2 years ago and really did a lot of portion control - that alone helped me lose so much weight. It's amazing how much extra food you eat just because it's there.

Good luck!

Oh God, exactly! My biggest issue wasn't that I'm inactive or that I ate too many wrong things. I just ate too much in general. I'm starting to realize more and more often that I'm perfectly happy with eating smaller portions (i. e. normal).

The program's really working for me so far. :)

Thank you, honey! It really seems to work for me. I'm starting to see how my clothes fit me better. It's a pretty awesome feeling. And all without not being able to eat when I need to or having to forgo a lot of things. It's pretty neat. :D

I'm so happy to hear you're finding the program doable and even fun. That's an awesome dress, btw! You'll be in it before you know it. I have a pair of Victoria's Secret jeans in the smallest size I've worn since my 20's as my goal outfit. After this round of WW which I've been on for over year now, I'm only two sizes away from those little jeans. :D I'm in no hurry, but the success is wonderful ( ... )

YAY! Go you and your jeans! :D This dress will totally be mine and of course, I'll show the results. Though, I also have another dress that I really want to fit into again. I bought it in 2003 when I was at my thinnest in my adult life, I suppose. I wore it exactly once: in the dressing room. It's such a beautiful summer dress and I can't wait to fit in again.

I finally got myself a tape measure and started seeing the first changes. I got frustrated last week when the weight I got from my scale in the morning was a 3 lbs difference to what I had in the evening at my official meeting weigh in. Like you, I don't find the weight the most reliable source to determine success because of the water or how you become heavier when you build muscle and work out. But the tape won't lie indeed. And the way I'm also starting to see my clothes fit better. That's pretty awesome.

Thank you for your lovely words. Keep me updated on your progress too, okay? :D
