Weight Watchers #3 (Aren't you loving these kinds of updates?)

Jan 23, 2011 13:35

I'm now on my third week of Weight Watchers and so far, things are looking well enough. At my first weigh in on Jan 11, I had lost 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) and was absolutely stoked with the result. At my second weigh in on Jan 18, I had a bit of a shock moment when I only had lost 0.2 kg (0.4 lb). I had stepped on my own scale in the morning and had seen ( Read more... )

I restarted WW yesterday. I slipped up and stopped keeping track and then I got intimidated by having to learn the new plan - so I gained back some weight and decided to start over from scratch.

Do you do a lot of cooking? I find that cooking helps with portion control. Because I learned to 'eyeball' what a cup looks like or a tablespoon etc I'm better at judging portion size. Sometimes I test myself. I eyeball a cup or an ounce and then I measure it just to be sure.

I've had some pretty bizarre weigh-ins too. One week the scale said I gained 9 pds and the next week it said I lost 11. I try to look at trends over a period of time and not let the week to week stuff worry me.

Good luck! Keep going! Keep posting! And don't be nervous - they can't behead you!

How are you doing with the new point system so far? I never knew the old one so I'm not getting confused there, but it's easy enough, I guess.

I do a lot of cooking! I love to cook. It's just sometimes during the week that I don't have the time. On the weekends I always cook fresh though. At this point I'm still measuring everything (when I can) and hopefully at one point I'll get the hang of it. I like the idea of starting to test myself like you do. Thanks for the tip!

I'm definitely trying to look at the overall trend too. And not to get caught up with the weight too much in the first place. I work out regularly, so I'll build muscle. However, sometimes it's a little hard not to go wtf?! if the scale clearly seems "wrong", you know? *g*

Thanks for your lovely words and encouragement! It means a lot! ♥ Good luck for your own weight loss!

For me the biggest problem with the new system is that I had so many points values on the old system memorized. So I'll grab a chicken breast and in my head I 'know' the points, but when I enter it in my tracker I'm off by a point or so. It's no where near as big a deal as I made it out to be in my head and I'm sure I'll have the new points values memorized in a couple of weeks - at least for the stuff I eat regularly. What can I say? I fear change.

I have the same problem with cooking. I worked 56 hours this past week and when I got home at night, cooking was the last thing on my mind. This week I'm getting back to planning ahead. Yesterday I did all my shopping - came home and separated stuff into individual portion containers and labeled them with sticky notes that had the points values on them.

Today I'm going to make a pot of stew and divide it up the same way.

The great thing about the new system is that fruit and vegetables have zero points. That's going to be awesome in the summer when I basically live on fruit.

Having a less than expected weigh in after a big initial loss is pretty normal. Happened to me pretty often. Chances are good you'll make up for it in this weigh in. Usually, you even out to about a 1-2 pound loss per week.

I'm fully expecting weeks where I won't lose as much as I did in the first week or where I might not lose anything at all. It was just a weird feeling that the scale in the evening differed so much from my own in the morning, you know? I'm fine with it now as I'm starting to see how some of my clothes fit me better. So I'm not worried as much. But on Tuesday, I was pretty frustrated. *g*

Yeah, I've been there. I've suggested Naked Weigh In's, but they weren't interested. Pity.

LOL. When I look at most of the women at my meetings, I can see why. I wouldn't be interested in seeing them naked either. *g*

On the WW front, sometimes what you eat the day before you weigh in can heavily impact your weight. That and what you are wearing, time of day, etc. Don't get discouraged. At least you lost! That is a positive. :)

I'm sorry that the whole NY thing is not going the way that you planned. Ugh. I can't imagine the frustration you must be going through. Keep thinking positive thoughts! I know it is rough, but I will keep thinking them for you as well. Stress on the job is just unnecessary.

It is! As I said to linda3m above, I'm trying to look at the overall progress and more at how my clothes look on me than the numbers on the scale. It's just hard to remind yourself of that every now and then. ;-)

Thank you, honey! I'm trying not to let it stress me out so much, but it's hard, considering this is maybe a dream coming true and a really big change in my life. I'm most stressed about the fact that no one's communicating with me unless I annoy them and keep asking and asking. At this point, I can't even start making plans and that doesn't make it any easier.

Your dedication to a healthier living almost makes me envious. ;-p

On the work front, you're doing your best to keep lines of communication open, and please know that we're here to read/listen, if you need to vent. {hugs}
