Whoa, that was an exciting hunting expedition! We never know when it's our appointed time to go (die), do we? Until then nothing can take us. It sounds like you met that one older man just in time to avoid hypothermia!
How often do you do these kind of things (hunting/camping)? It must be fun -- except for the nearly dying part. No one shot any elk? That was probably disappointing.
BTW, about the spit falling to the ground ... *calculations* ... that would mean that the wind speed was between 45 and 56 mph. That's not too bad.
No, the wind speed doesn't surprise me at all, either. I'd assumed you were exaggerating somewhat ... until I did the math. =)
Hmm ... I'll have to see sometime if I can go on a similar hunting trip with my brother-in-law. He's got hunting rifles and compound bows and used to go deer hunting up in Indiana a while ago.
Well I do plan on taking Summer in that far and further, but I do plan on having better equipment by then. It is wonderful fun Mom so you shouldn't want to deprive us of pleasure like that would you?
I will try to take care of myself good enough to have kids someday.
About the scripture... I just had a peace through the whole thing. I was simply trusting God to bring me back so I really never got worried. I was very cold though and needed to use my facaulties to know what I needed to do, simply trusting God to bring me through.
WOW! My first thought was, "I didn't know people still had adventure like that in this day and age." My second thought was, "Oh my, I can only imagine the phone call when you related this story to Summer." My third though was, "I wonder what Summer's mom is going to say."
Why don't you have a GPS. They're really helpful you know.
Well... half of me hankers for the adventure, the other half seems to resist. Which is my better? Hmmm... Well, quite an experience. Definitely gave you some quiet time.
There is still lot's of wilderness country out here that very few people have ever been to, it still is very wild and untamed.
I really think the adventuresome side is better simply because there may be times that you will think back to the times that you could have done something like this and wonder what you missed. Please don't resist. You may even have a near death experience like I did. The funnest part of the whole thing was to hear the reactions of everybody when I tell them about it.:D
I do plan on getting a GPS soon but I hadn't even really thought about it before our trip.
Were you shivering? I found out later that if you get lost and have to spend the night out you want to hug a tree to keep from shivering. This reserves your bodies' core heat and stops the shivering from wasting energy to simply try to keep some surface heat. In other circumstances when you shiver go somewhere where it's warm:D

I think I will probably take a trip like this once or twice a year. It just depends on how things go.

BTW, I guess you did a lot of praying through all that, huh?
What scriptures did the Lord bring to your mind during your ordeal?
I'm very glad you survived, Ben!.....I want some grandkids, you know. :)
Love,
Mom
