The Economist's style guide includes a fascinating (to dorks like me) page on the distinctions between British and American usage. I had no idea about a lot of these things. "To host a party" is an Americanism? "To slate" can mean "to abuse" in Britain

I think it's interesting how the language has drifted so much in a few hundred years. My Enlish teacher in high school always got on us for using "mad" when we meant "angry", so it's something I'm still mindful of.

My favorite Britishism has always been "to take a decision."
