If you're looking for a stream, go
here. Yeah, so that was amazing right?
I think the moment that moved me the most - and moved me to make the weirdest noise - was the sound and sight of the flying bison. I was just, like, DAMN. APPA. Except not. Appa's child it appears. But that's okay. It's not as glorious as the brief moment when I thought Appa was still alive but knowing that there are multiple flying bison out there is still pretty great.
The next moment to really hurt was Katara (KATARA! eeeeeee!) casually mentioning that Sokka is dead. He's my favourite. I'm not okay with Aang being dead but I was prepared for that, knew it going in. I wasn't prepared for this. Sokka would have been such a great old man to hang out with. Ugh, Sokka, my library-loving sarcastic soulmate.
Still on the nostalgia front, I had to laugh at Bryke teasing the Zuko's mother story so soon. Excellent trolling, guys.
I love Korra. SHE'S THE AVATAR AND WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. Done. Consider it dealt with. I will brook no criticism of her, especially for doing stuff that Aang did. I love that she looks so strong, that she's tall and has muscles - she's no anime waif. Excellent job on the character design on all fronts. There's enough of Aang in her and yet she's still her own person.
I don't know yet what to make of Mako and Bolin. I'm slightly weary of them and any romantic stories just because I expect the fandom to go nuts (I wasn't here for the first flush of Avatar fandom but I've heard the stories, seen the battle scars). Tenzin, his family, and Lin Beifong all seem awesome.
In terms of world building I really dig the design of Republic City, the steampunky elements, and the jazzy score - though I do miss the old credits music.
Wow. The gaang is back and it feels good.
EDIT: I am choosing to believe that the second episode's title "A leaf in the wind" and Tenzin's speech about being like the leaf are references to Hoban Washburne and Serenity. No one can convince me otherwise.
Also: Nutty shippers are already at it, picking sides based on one episode's worth of interaction. Ugh.
