Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane

So I recently read through Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane 1-17, a move that totally has nothing at all to do with anyone posting it on BT. It's a fun series and I enjoyed it, and i was quite pleased to see that (at least until more recent issues) it actually took Mary Jane as the primary character and kept Peter and Spider-Man as supporting characters ( Read more... )

I don't think the issue here is quite the Bechdel Test so much as the idea that a comic targetted at girls can only be successful if it's only about relationships.

Which may or may not be true, I don't know. But I think that if anything's the issue it's that.

Well, it's a variant of the same problem - to make a comic targeted at girls, they made a comic with central teen-girl characters and "naturally" made it all about relationships, to the exclusion of the characters having anything else going on.
