I highly suggest the book Why Does He Do That by Lundy Bancroft. That book kind of blew my mind up. It is a very intense book, though, and is about the way abuse works in the context of relationships. It changed my life and helped me a lot, but I'd suggest reading it in small bits.

For fiction recommendations, I'd say the Otherland series by Tad Williams. Its protagonist is a South African black woman; how many other amazing sci-fi series do you know with a realistic women of color as the lead figures?
