"Nice place," he said, eyebrow raised as he looked around. "Kinda ... fancy."

"It is, isn't it? I hope you don't mind. I thought it might be, ah..." A special occasion, he meant to say, but he didn't want to make either of them uncomfortable. He really wasn't sure exactly where their relationship stood.
