My manners, abominable at times, can be sweet. As I grew older I became a drunk. Why? Because I like ecstasy of the mind. I'm a wretch. But I love, love. -Jack Kerouac
I have not read much Kerouac, I've generally been more a Ginsberg person, but I have been meaning to read more for a VERY long time. I read The Subterraneans for a class I took a few semesters ago and I felt like i needed to be on drugs for it to make real sense. As I recall they didn't help much.
Also think makes being an alcoholic sound excusable, and almost fun :)
From what little bit I've read, I don't actually like Kerouac in long form, but he has some very beautiful thoughts spread throughout the jumble, and his works are worth mining if only for them.
