Crusty's Back.

Pulled in about ten-thirty Friday night, whipped, beat, a good mite poorer, but happy as a pig in mud. (I know it's supposed to be "a pig in shit", but I've yet to meet a pig who digs being in a wallowfull of shit. For that matter I don't think I've met ANY animal who'd willingly, happily roll about in a pit of feces all the live-long day...with ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, going back to Real Media when you've been all digital for years is fun. Even for me, who's never really learnt the basics of painting. I gotta do some more of it!

Hey, you're learning the basics the best way possible! Divin' in and havin' at it. (I recommend Alla Prima: all I know about painting from Richard Schmid as an awesome all-round book on the art of painting, if you've not heard of it.)

And *I* am certainly enjoying watching you as you grow. ;)

I've just been going on what I remember from my painting class in animation school so far. I'll look around for that; I need some technique/philosophy/etc. Thanks!

Hey Pegster! I'll give you some more bookish refermince later today. I've got a list of such books that have good stuff to say, as opposed to Hobbyist Artist Teaches Faux-Bob-Ross. There are far too many books like that on the market.

As one of my instructors once said, "Painting's like learning to draw all over again, only harder."

Sounds utterly amazing, dood! And here I thought you were in San Diego! Can't wait to see what you're doing. Can't wait to see the progress and then what you do with it in your salaried work. Do I detect more mixed media? Digital and pastel, perhaps? Amazing amazing!

I think I've been too stuck in analog to go utterly digital. That's why I still ink by hand (that and it's faster). I tried painting outside once a couple years ago. It was like I'd forgotten everything I thought I knew about painting. Real colors still elude me to some extent but then again, I don't really like realistic colors.

I've also recently gone back to one of the most tried and true methods of learning art; copying other people. In this case, it's using Frazetta as a mold on which to drape my cartooning. Might be worthwhile for you to do something of the same? Copy a painting you like just to find out -how-?

This just sounds great. Look at you! You're positively BUBBLING in this post! *HUG*

I did a piss-poor job of telling folks where I was gonna be when, so you're not the only one who was surprised by this. :P One more thing to get better at.

I am a-bubble! It's true! The challenge will be to remain bubbly, to remind myself how it felt and to keep doing it. I got handed a little pile of gold this week. Time to honor that, way past time.

Hey, indeedy! I have my sights on changing Berby's style, with an unholy alliance between JC Leyendecker and the Korean Artist behind Legend of Avalanche (or whatever silly name that game has), the Magna Carta guy. Time to break out the work and See How They're Doin' It.

Meanwhile I AM WAAAY TO HOT, and NOT IN A GOOD WAY. *pants*

Oh god, your icon--! XD

Glad you had such a great time!

I was going to say something awesome, but I just forgot what it was. :(

I may as well mention, though, that it's "plein air", European phonetics an' all. :>
