Nunc dimittis

Just heard on the news that Ted Kennedy has died. I knew that he was in bad shape after he couldn't attend his sister's funeral, but wow.

Can't stop crying.

Will be pouring myself a wee dram in his honor. More tomorrow, maybe.

You know, much as I'll miss him, I can't imagine crying over Teddy Kennedy. Especially since it's not as if this has been unexpected in any way. What's the connection that brings on the great grief?

- End of an era
- we still have broken health care in this country
- damn, did he ever have a great second act.

I get the end of an era. But Kennedy's been out of the health care debate by dint of being dying from brain cancer for the last year and a half. If it is going to happen, it would have had to happen without him. Yeah, it sucks that there's no Hollywood ending where a near-death Kennedy comes in and casts the deciding vote in the Senate, but Democratic strategists have been assuming he would be absent and planning around that.

I thought he was a pretty good guy. He represented his voters well. I was his constituent for several years, met him a few times. But the idea that you're so broken up about his (totally expected) death that you're unable to stop crying worries me.

Unless that was hyperbole, in which case ignore this.

Well, it was true at the time I wrote it. Slow tears rather than sobbing. I was better by morning ;).

Yeah, I would have liked the Hollywood ending. Hopefully we'll get a happy ending without it.

You met him? Very cool.
