mah baby's got rhythm!

today we heard the heartbeat! it seems to be in perfect double-time with mine. i dodged the blood draw bullet again (not without throwing up and giving myself high blood pressure first). they are calling me houdini. one more month til we may be able to determine the sex!

Eeeeep! That's soo exciting. But I'm a bit concerned, what do the blood draws show? Is there another way to get whatever they are after?

i have an obstetrician. she is not going to flippantly skip tests that are truly necessary at the risk of me or the baby. most of the tests they do are to check for things there is no way to fix if they find something wrong. since i would not have an abortion under any circumstances (such as down's syndrome), at this point, there is no reason to make me go through all of the tests. most people routinely go through a hell of a lot more tests and such than is necessary, just as a matter of course, because someone said so. pregnancy is not an illness, under most circumstances. i'm simply refusing to treat it as one. i'm keeping myself well informed and educated and making sure that i do *necessary* things that are *known* to be good for us, and skipping the things that are largely due to lemming mentality.
