my father just called. i agreed to see him in a week when he comes through town for an evening. it's been nine years.

stay tuned for a series of posts of magnitudinous proportions in which i try to sort through the profound overwhelm i've been experiencing, as of late. just as soon as i recover from my current state of shock.

one of my friends gave me a stethoscope for my birthday last week, and just today for the first time i was able to discern where the baby's back is in my belly and actually HEAR HER HEARTBEAT! at home! with no doppler! i do not have adequate words for how comforting this sound is, and to be able to reconnect in that way anytime i feel like it. today they finally made me do the blood tests at the doc. I DID NOT FREAK OUT!! pretty much for the first time in my life, i had just some tears and some very deliberate breathing, i did not lose track of the english language, i did not involuntarily thrash and fight, i did not pass out or puke or even close to it, and no one had to hold me down. SHE IS A GIRL! (or so it appears, at this point, pretty darn clearly, there is a margin for error and a chance it could be wrong but it was not very ambiguous)

this morning we had our 2nd trimester ultrasound. all systems appear to be go, all essential parts present and accounted for in detail, bones, organs, digits, etc, and appropriately sized for the age. the little bugger is a fidgety, spastic thing, flipping all over the place and doing gymnastics in there (but i can't feel it yet). we discovered the ( Read more... )
