According to Hedi Slimane, the best way to celebrate International Women's Day 2008 was to photograph Kate Moss: a flat-chested, vacant, wealthy, drug-using failure as a mother. One of the prostitution, oh I mean fashion, industry's biggest names...

I think you should read Persepolis. Its a graphic novel, but its about a girl growing up in Iran during their revolution and ensuing war with Iraq. Its incredibly humbling and what you say about women's rights, along with what I've gathered of you just from reading your lj (which honestly can't be much) make me think that you'd really enjoy it. Also, I agree with you. A washed-out old coke-head with expensive clothes is not a good role model.

I'll definitely look into getting that, sounds like something I'd love, thanks! (and LOVE your icon!)

while I agree that it was a stupid way to celebrate such an important day, the fact that you listed a woman as being "flat-chested" and "wealthy" as being negative traits towards womanhood is insulting.

I know you didn't mean it that way at all, but it is more than a little offensive...

Well, I realised the flat-chested bit doesn't make much sense, I meant it in the sense that Kate Moss, with her millions and androgynous figure, is hardly the archetypal suffering impoverished woman our society does so little to help.

And why is it offensive that she's wealthy? She needs no saving, no support for her womanhood.
