I understand what you mean, I really do. It's like everybody, in every community other than Facebook, just gave up on commenting and creating some kind of relation or complicity. Livejournal is completely dead (at least here in Portugal it is); at Flickr people just slap a "favorite" on photos and don't bother to comment anymore; and I don't like Tumblr either, it feels like people just use it to build an online persona completely based on other people's work. I want to keep blogging, but I can't seem to find the right platform for it.
Yes, those are my thoughts, too... The great thing about lj was the possibility of sharing things with other people that, although you didn´t know in person most of the time, you got to know through their own journals... So it was public and private at the same time. The community wasn´t based on creating a certain image of oneself, but just telling small stories about our lifes. I guess we´ll have to wait for the right kind of platform to keep on doing so :-)
I feel the exact same way although I try and keep up with Cotton-Hearted, my blog. I love your photos so I'm following you on Instagram. I am cottonhearted on there. : )
