Accepted Players - Rikkai

Mar 10, 2012 18:00

All of the accepted players will have their accepted applications put into posts separated by school so new players can search what the other characters they're interested in apped with and can possibly create histories around that if that's what they wish to do.

Rikkai:

Character name: Sanada Genichirou
Character school: Rikkai
Character journal: Reusing

Backstory: Sanada immediately joined the tennis club upon entering Rikkai High to again lend his strength for the pride of his school, but by the end of his high school career, he had realized that he could never reach the same intensity of play as he did in middle school, back when victory for him felt literally the matter between life and death. Despite his skill in the sport, he found that he could not go pro without having something to fight for-- what drove him in middle school was fighting for his school, his team, his captain; becoming a professional meant fighting for himself, and a selfish reason as that was not strong enough a conviction for him.

After graduating high school, he decided to enroll into a police academy where he could continue kendo and put himself into good use in defending his city. He studied at the academy for a year, living in the dorms but still maintaining that same air of seriousness. He took a year for field work, and seeing and acting on the things he came up against only instilled the strictness even further. He enjoyed his time there, being amongst like-minded people and those of similar temperament and severity.

It was one of his first times shadowing a group of senior police officers on the job when he came into an unexpected shooting; he was well suited for close combat against the knife-bearing assailants he was often assigned to stop, but there was little anyone can do at gunpoint, especially one of so little experience first hand. The assailant was eventually detained, but while Sanada escaped with his life, he had taken a bullet to the shoulder and was sent on permanent leave following a loathingly lengthy hospital stay.

He is now an assistant instructor (until he is older and through with rehabilitation) for kendo at the same police academy his grandfather taught, thanking the gods that at least it was his left shoulder that he had limited use of; tennis could still be played using his right, and he finds that smashing a tennis ball against the wall never fails to take his mind off the physical pain that comes at times or the metal distress of not knowing if this is what he wants to do with his life, especially one that was almost taken from him.

How are they on the island? Atobe's fault

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted? ...Do you mind Sanada yelling in capslock? I remember tending to do that a lot back when I played dorky 16-year-old Sanada >__________>

Character name Yanagi Renji
Character school Rikkai
Character journal reusing

Backstory
Yanagi Renji enjoyed tennis; it was a sport that physically and mentally challenged him, it probed him to develop his strategy skill and above all, allowed him to meet his best friends and to whom he felt deeply bonded by sweat, tears, pain and that indescribable instant of violent ecstasy after winning a match. Yet, he knew the golden times he spent along them during middle school weren’t going to last long once they graduated; people tend to distance when they try to figurate their identity and to determine their future.

Of course, he was right.

He ended up dropping out the tennis club in his second year, under the pretences of focusing in the upcoming university applications and to achieve a scholarship to ensure his future. He wanted to de-attached himself of something that he would not pursue as a way of living. Yes, there was a highly percent of managing a good position within the Japanese tennis circle, but the chances of dropping out after the first two tournaments were even higher. He didn’t play for the glory (it was enjoyable, of course), but for surpassing his limits and achieving the best game played (based in taking advantage of every single factor and using it to its ultimate potential); the common tensions and business-like pressures of the professional circuit would definitely stain the memories he treasured so dearly about tennis.

And there wasn’t such thing as a Naoki prize winner tennis player, after all.

After graduating high school, he accepted the scholarship that it was offered to him by a prestigious University and move out to Tokyo to become a writer. He decided stop keeping track of his former teammates, only calling Seiichi and Genichirou at least once every three months to check on them and make sure they were alright.

He found the college life too noisy, distracting and shallow, so he wandered around the libraries and parks to write his first lengthy novel. He wrote between three pages per day; in a prolific day, those would become five to six. If he ever found himself in the middle of a writer’s block, he would play shōgi against himself to find a way outside his own predicament.
It was in the middle of a shōgi match (that he had been playing for a week straight) that realization hit him. He was missing something. Well not something, everything. The memories of the thrill of good tennis match, the sound of a tennis ball being hit, the rush of the wind, the smell of court amplified by the heat, the sound of tennis shoes, the sensation of feeling totally exhausted at the bridge of unconsciousness yet totally satisfied, and a strong hand patting his back after winning a match, flooded his mind.

He missed using his mental skills against someone other than himself.

And his friends.

Badly.

Yanagi used his abilities to infiltrate different networks and to obtain the information he had been missing for three years and he found himself panting slightly at the rush of doing something illegal, yet so familiar at the same time. He was good at using the knowledge-memory-strategy combination. He wanted this.

His writing improved drastically after that. He tried hacking networks of a more elevated security level with success (and even if he had a very accurate idea of how prolific the information trade could be, now he had the certainty of it). Exchanging some information to the right people about the right market choices allowed him to get an apartment for his own before graduating from college and to have a comfortable life without any needs, so he could continue working on his ‘master piece’.

Sometimes, he still faced writer’s blocks that couldn’t be solved hacking nor with shōgi, but he had tennis or kendo practice at the Sanada Family Dojo for those.

How are they on the island? Even if the chances of happening are under 3%, it is possible for a high tech cruise to sink in the middle of nowhere.

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted?Mmmm YAY TROIKA!!!??? XD Yanagi is a reserved character, but enjoys getting to know people (not that he needs to be near them to do so but… whatever) so he will be delighted to chat with everyone. I think some background with Sanada and Yukimura is a must as well :D Renji needs some love~~~

Character nameKirihara Akaya
Character schoolRikkai
Character journal - demon_muga
BackstoryAkaya continued on to Rikkai for HS, and was eager to be on the same team as his old friends. He was very disappointed that Yanagi quit tennis during his second year there (Akaya's first), thereby making it impossible for him to beat the Master since he refused to play anymore (mun-note: This is what I've gathered from Yanagi's app.)
During his second year, Akaya again failed to beat Sanada and Yukimura, though the margins were far closer than they'd ever been before. He was excited at the prospect of getting to play them again in tournamnets, but became very upset when he dsicovered that neither of them planned to go pro.
Akaya only finished HS because his parents begged him to, but went pro immediately after graduation. In the last three years he's gained an impressive resume of wins, though he's currently having a bad season due to a torn ligament in his left ankle that needs time to heal properly. The invitation for the cruise came at a perfect time since it allows Akaya to travel and see his old teammates. He's only recently gotten off of his crutches, but he is still unable to be as active as he likes.

How are they on the island? - skip if you're applying before March 20th Stupid Atobe's stupid boat.

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted?I don't know if any of the demons want to have any particular backstory with Akaya. From what I've read, none of them mention staying in regular contact with everyone, and I think Akaya would be giving them a long term silent treatment for giving up before he could beat them. If any of you disagree, or want to add any backstory, I am all for that! :D

Character name: Niou Masaharu
Character school: Rikkai
Character journal:
pup1na
Backstory: Though he had planned to go to an architecture department of a technical high school, after the incident with Yukimura’s illness, Niou went on to Rikkai Senior High School and participated in the tennis club. He, unfortunately, quit the tennis club after his second year with his reasoning be that he wanted to focus on entrance exams. Though it seemed to be a common reason for most third years, none of his friends knew that the real reason he had quit the tennis club was because his mother had fell ill and he wanted to work to help his father and older sister support the family. With his mother being ill, this triggers a change in Niou. He became more a bit more serious about school and not spending his time playing video games or going to a late show and he couldn’t find the time to do the things that he likes, like being with his friends or even playing tricks on people. He took on a part-time job in secret after gaining the approval from the headmaster. Unfortunately, his mother died a week before his entrance exams which placed great stress on him.

Niou was accepted into the undergraduate six year medical program at the University of Tokyo. When his friends had found out, it surprised everyone that the playful Niou Masaharu, or rather, the use-to-be playful Niou Masaharu was going to pursue medicine. All he did was give them a smile since none of them knew about the hardships that his family had went through. However, after his first year of university, he confided everything to Yagyuu.

Since moving into his own apartment in Tokyo for school, Niou rarely kept in contact with his friends with the except of either a monthly visit or phone call to Yagyuu. Because of the difficulty of the medical program, he dedicated his college years to school and gave himself no time to date or party. He felt his freedom was restricted by the choices that he made and he already knew that this was completely out of character for himself, but decided to push aside those thoughts until he had finished school. The only time he actually felt like he could be himself without having to worry about the stress of an upcoming practical or exam is whenever he would go home to visit his family or with Yagyuu.

After four years of constant studying and working, Niou is still working to finish his last two years in the medical program and was somehow able to gain an paid internship at a local hospital where he would mostly just accompany the doctor that he has been assigned that day with their rounds around the hospital.

How are they on the island? While impersonating Atobe’s voice, “It was ore-sama’s fault.”

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted? It’s not my first time rp-ing, but it is the first time in a while. I’m open for any suggestions from anybody else involving Niou’s background if accepted.

Backstory What has your character been doing since they graduated from middle school? After Niou left the Tennis Club in high school, Yagyuu found that tennis just wasn't as...important in his life as it once was. He decided to buckle down and start cramming to get into his preferred school, one of the most prestigious medical schools in Japan, the Nippon Medical University.

Upon being accepted, he applied himself diligently and politely to trying to graduate with honors, not a mean feat considering the school, but something he felt he had to do (once he discovered Niou was also in Medical School). He is currently in his fourth year of the program.

However, he has long accepted that dealing with living patients is not his forte. They're often highly emotional and don't follow directions. Therefore his intention is to immediately apply to the graduate program to learn forensic pathology. Once graduated from both Medical School and his Specialty School, he intends to seek a position within Tokyo, with the Police.

On a personal note, he has stayed in touch with both Yukimura and Niou, spending time with each of them as their schedules allow.

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted? I'm already in contact with Niou-mun and Yukimura-mun...if anyone else would like to have some pre-existing history, please contact me! I'm here to play!

Character name Marui Bunta and Kuwahara Jackal
Character school Rikkai
Character journal Bunta:
cafecomacucarRN Jackal:
cafecomcremeRN
Backstory Bunta and Jackal stuck with tennis through high school, continuing to play as partners throughout. As graduation approached, Bunta was under a great deal of pressure from his father to get into an esteemed university and program that would lead to a high-income position. Meanwhile, Jackal had the bomb dropped on him that his parents intended to move back to Brazil upon his graduation. Neither of them were ready to stop playing tennis together, so they investigated university programs in Brazil. Bunta, who had been studying Spanish in school, began to study Portuguese in all of his spare time when he was not in class or on the court. Jackal and Bunta agreed upon the University of São Paulo where they could continue to play doubles.

They found that the majority of courts in South America were red clay - and that their game improved significantly on a clay surface. Their coach encouraged them to enter into the qualifier matches for men’s doubles in the Brasil Open. They went undefeated in the tournament, taking the championship title which in turn qualified them for the Copa Telmex in Buenos Aires. After experiencing similar success in the Copa, they switched over to correspondence courses at the university and continued to play in smaller tournaments in South America and the US. They have come to be known as clay specialists with a number of wins under their belts on clay. Their names are sometimes even mentioned in the same breath as Rafa Nadal, the so called “King of Clay.”

They have both done what they can to stay in touch while traveling the Americas - they may have even run into Akaya in their travels. Bunta regularly emails Seiichi to update him on where they are in the world and asks Seiichi to pass the information along to the others. They regularly mail care packages back to their friends, the ones they have addresses for anyway, containing good South American coffee, weird American candies, or whatever else strikes their fancy.

Though the degree is of less importance to him, now, Bunta is studying psychology in school and continues to work on his Spanish and Portuguese as minor focuses. Jackal is studying zoology with the intention of completing a veterinary degree when they settle down at the end of their tennis career. They’ve also agreed that they are going to adopt a dog when they finally are able to settle in one place... Bunta has made Jackal promise it can be a big dog.

Bunta and Jackal have been an established couple since high school and this would not be a secret to anyone who knows them from school. Rather than wearing promise rings, they decided back in high school to get their ears pierced (though, this took a lot of convincing on Bunta’s part). It got them in trouble when there were uniform checks at school, but it hasn’t been a problem since they moved to Brazil - no one even notices.

Jackal saw this cruise as a golden opportunity to finally propose to his boyfriend of many years and convinced Bunta they should RSVP. Bunta is none the wiser.

Anything you wanna ask or prod any other players before you are accepted? Bunta and Jackal have been playing at a pro level, so they may have run into Akaya in their travels. They have some history with Seiichi (as is mentioned in the app - per... myself XD). Bunta will almost assuredly call your character by some extremely obnoxious nickname no matter how you try to dissuade him. We’re open to additional history with other characters as well!
