When I heard that Joe would make a film with JCVD I couldn’t contain my excitement! I used to be a huge JCVD fan! Many, many years ago but still…. :) At one point, because everybody around kept on grumbling, I kind of gave in and joined this notion too…. BUT…I WAS WRONG. :P
It’s good, well, I mean it’s not bad. :) Certainly not an Oscar film but definitely good entertainment. Good action. Not boring nor dragging at all. I watched it and not even once did I check the time - unlike with masterpieces like Change of Plans or Ferocious Planet…. Definitely a huge step up for Joe. Maybe not acting wise, he was as good as he always is but surely script wise. An interesting story, written in a, dare I say, rather riveting way. :)
Joe’s acting was good but that hasn’t come as a surprise to me at all. Now I guess I know why he might have enjoyed shooting this film. I think this role suited him. This angry/desperate father trying to get his daughter back. He should find himself more roles like that.
Monica Fayden (Joe’s/Andrew’s wife) played by Anna-Louise Plowman was good too. JCVD as Samson Gaul was decent, not brilliant… just decent… lol But than again you can’t expect *real* acting from him. It’s his fighting that has always attracted me. And speaking of fighting - Joe was good! I hoped for more but he certainly managed to make his character believable as a MMA fighter. :)
JCVD’s son, Kristopher, showed some good acting as well. The rest of the actors, all those gangsters and prostitutes, all the extras were…. well pretty bad and I couldn’t shake the feeling that JCVD found them all somewhere in the streets, pure coincidence, no acting experience at all. And because of all those “actors” this film, despite a pretty good script, may not make *real* success and may get classified as another “cheesy JCVD film”. I may be wrong though. Time will tell.
All in all, almost two hours of good entertainment for me. Oh and one HUGE disappointment - just a few seconds of semi-shirtless Joe….. SO hoped for more! :P
Still not entirely sure whether to cancel or not my order on Amazon. They release Six Bullets on September 11 so I still have 6 days to make up my mind.
Ok, I'll shut up now and leave you with:
