Title: I Don’t Love You
Author: aurora_enkeli
Pairing: Bert/Gerard
Rating: R for language
POV: third
Disclaimer: Totally not mine.
Summary: ‘Would you have the guts to say “I don’t love you, like I did, yesterday”…’ Taking a brief break during recording, Bert comes across a video of a new My Chemical Romance song that he hasn’t heard yet.
Authors Notes: This is probably my favourite song (along with Dead!) so far out of the ones I heard in London then Leeds and it screamed Bert and Gerard so loud that I think even my mum agreed. Also, I have apologies for not updating ‘Noise and Kisses’ in so long- my writers block only just went away.

Bert had seen clips on the television and all over the internet of My Chemical Romance’s new music. He had been impressed but he was loathed to admit it. He was sitting on the floor of the recording studio, taking a break and checking his emails while smoking quite contentedly on a cigarette. Quinn, for some reason, had emailed him with a link to a video, despite the fact that the pair were never apart at the moment. The only message along with the link was “Sorry”. Frowning, Bert clicked on the blue letters.

While waiting for the video to load, Bert’s stomach dropped when he saw the title ‘My Chemical Romance- I Don’t Love You’. He took a long drag of tobacco as the video began to play.

It had been taken in London on a person’s phone so both picture and sound quality were fairly shoddy but he knew right away that he hadn’t heard this song yet. Listening to it, Bert struggled to make out the lyrics, inadvertently losing himself in the sound of Gerard singing.

After a couple of minutes Bert found himself mouthing along a few words of the chorus, his forgotten cigarette dripping ash onto his jeans. He flicked it away, feeling Quinn watching him from across the room but he didn’t look up, instead typing ‘My Chemical Romance lyrics’ frantically into the search box of his Google tool bar. It only took him a minute to find the lyrics for the song, his heart plummeting to somewhere near his shoes with every single word.

“So take your gloves and get out…” he mumbled, swallowing heavily. Gerard had said that exact thing to him the last time they had been together. They had fought, argued and bitched about absolutely everything. Gerard had asked questions that Bert couldn’t have answered if he tried.

“Do you even fucking give a fuck about me?” Gerard had shouted, “don’t you get that I’m fucking in love with you?!”

Bert didn’t get it; didn’t feel it back and that was the thing he really couldn’t understand. Gerard tried to give him his heart and all Bert tried to do was return it for store credit. That had been when he’d thrown Bert’s things at him and demanded he leave.

“Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading…” Bert’s lips curved silently around the words, his hands gripping the sides of the laptop, if only for something to cling to. He had only heard Gerard crying once over the whole thing on one fateful night when Bert had actually answered his phone to the older man. He hadn’t said a word, simply letting Gerard scream and shout and finally sob before hanging up.

On the particular site that Bert was on, the last two choruses of ‘I don’t love you…’ weren’t in speech marks and he wondered briefly if that had been a choice of the website maintainers or if there were something more poignant about their absence. Maybe Gerard really didn’t love him any more.

Running his hands through his hair, Bert sighed as he took his cell phone out of his pocket and dialled Gerard’s number. He hesitated before pressing the call button. It rang so long that Bert was convinced Gerard wouldn’t answer but finally there was a tired and suspicious voice on the other end.

“Bert? What do you want?” Gerard asked. Bert closed his eyes before responding.

“I don’t love you, like I did, yesterday.”
