Here courtesy of Pepe's Place group... ;-)

Lovely story, it feels so very nice and I can see Daniel as the poor country doctor...... he'd sacrifice his own comfort to help others..... Nicely done and will wait (no so) patiently for more!

I like what you did with Jeremiah and the dignity you provided in his passing. Also, like how Daniel remembered Jeremiah's words and how he relayed them to Jack in this excellent exchange:

“He also said that he’d had to fight hard for his happiness - that none of it hade come for free.”

“Then he was a wise man too. Happiness isn’t always where you expect it to be, and if you do find it, you’re a fool if you give it up without a struggle.”

This was a wonderful wrapup to a your series. The ending line is perfect.

Thanks so much. I wanted to show a little more of how Daniel's life was such a jarring mismatch with Jack's, and poor Jeremiah got dragged in on the act. I'm really pleased you enjoyed this series - thanks for reading.

I read this this morning, and just came back to go backwards and read part 2. Wonderful stuff! I don't know how you do it, but you pull off the language of the period without seeming hokey or stiff, and without transforming either gentleman into a damsel. I do hope you continue with this series!

Thank you so much. I think the reason I've persisted with this series (other than all the lovely comments people have made) is that I truly love the language style from this period - however fictional it may be. It's very freeing somehow.

I have one more story to wrap this up, although it's still buzzing around in my head, waiting for time and space to let it out.

Thanks again- I really appreciate your comments.
